  1. {Edit, becaues Wyv posted as I was} The person above me is an almost dragon who really isn't too good with doors.
  2. I tried to write a meaningful discussion on this, but I keep changing my mind on what this means and how to say it, so I'll throw all t hat out the window and just say: Cool , Am particularly intersted in the last line--if one kills oneself then can one be the victim?...or are you suggesting that we're all the killers? I'm probably just a pessimist, but I could read it either way I think.
  3. OOC:This is a random writing project I'm starting, do me a favour and don't add to it if you haven't talked to me (I like Rune's idea of blue for ooc : ) :wigglycabbage: The Encyclopedia of Wiggly Cabbages :wigglycabbage: General Overview: Wiggly Cabbages are irridescent, passive creatures that greatly resemble normal garden cabbages--but they wiggle constantly. A closer look will show that these creatures are not just a wiggly plants. On a basic, outside level they don't just move their leaves, they can move from place to place (via Telekenesis, they have no legs, and it would damage their roots to be walked on.) It is extremely rare for this to happen, though for the plants rarely seem to have the disposition to move. This brings up another issue--These "plants" are every bit as sentient as you and I. Whether to move or not is indeed a decision that they make, and can discuss with their fellows. However, lacking a mouth, they speak via Telepathy. Since, they are able to speak with those who do not have telepathy, this enables them to communicate with all varieties of even partially sentient animals, and of course, humans. Habits: Wiggly Cabbages live in large communities, that generally spend all their time talking. No matter, how much any human tries to persuade a Wiggly Cabbage, or group there of, to come see the world they have no interest. If the patch that they grow in (for they do indeed seem to grow via sunlight, dirt and water the way other plants do) becomes unsuitable for reasons of too much shadow or unhealthy dirt they can move, but otherwise do not. These communities form the point of life for these cooperative creatures. If for some reason a Wiggly Cabbage was forced to remain alone, for instance, it suffered some damage that prevented it from communicating with others, it would quickly wither and die. This can cause some fairly simple tasks to become extremely hard. For instance, if drought strikes a region where they live it is very unlikely that these homebodies could manage to find their way to a more appropriate spot. A few try, and travel as a band toward some vague, half understood goal, but they usually do foolish things like smash themselves on trees when distracted from actual life by some pleasing conversation. For this reason, Wiggly Cabbages rarely survive a drought. Although Wiggly Cabbages, will on occasion, manipulate their nonsentient surroundings, in furtherance of a goal, (not being eaten for instance) they will never force an interaction with a sentient animal that is not pleasing to it. They can feel mental fields, and detect thoughts, so they usually know what a creature does or does not want, and can not bear the anguish of an upset or frustrated mind. They will never declare war, but when attacked will defend themselves. They generally begin by repeatedly moving the attacking creature away from them. This is generally enough for any non sentient, or not very determined creature, but if any animal persists in their harmful intentions the cabbages will give out shocks. This is rare though, the main use they have for their ability of reading minds is to find friends. They will hail passing creatures from miles away, if they think the creature might be willing to chat. In many places the local Wiggly Cabbage patch is the best source of gossip, and functions rather like a radio station. Similarly, any wounded creature is easily apparent to them, and so they will help (if they're able) or summon help regularly.
  4. Interesting to see a nonOdysseus centered point of view about the story. cool
  5. Myth waved her hands in a gesture of unconcern. " You're a mage, and one who uses fire, if you all get in trouble you can send up a signal to us. I have matches to burn things if we managed to get lost, and I don't plan to get caught it'll work." "How do you know..." Gyrfalcon began, but Myth got up and began packing things up. "It was clear that she was determined, and he figured that enough of the details were probably worked out. Meanwhile, Myth began speaking again, on a less disputable matter "We can't leave our campsite here, someone or something could get into it. Let's stow anything important and get going!" She gathered the dishes, and dumped them in front of the scholar. "You do these." Kaylera, however was lost in thought, so she didn't seem to notice the rather peremtory command, probably just as well. As soon as most of what was vital to the expedition, that Myth worried could be taken or destroyed, was packed up, she beckoned Y'Tren over. Let's go now, I don't feel like cleaning up more, they can do it. Y'Tren shrugged, he wasn't worried about the stuff, and probably a bit lazier, he didn't feel like working anyway. It wasn't as if he'd been cleaning up--just sitting on the ground finishing his oatmeal and watching. Gyrfalcon watched the two walk off, not completely pleased with their suddenness, but no matter. Myth stayed silent for a while as they shoved their way through an old growth forest. There were vines everywhere, and they were always falling down, knocked into ones face, after one moved the vines that were underneath them, so it was bit hectic for chatting. They walked and fought the undergrowth (and over growth) for quite a while. Though neither of them had a watch, both began to get hungry, and out of patience with this hike--t'was easier walking in the cities they were used to. And then things got odd, for there, in front of the two was a path. How, why or whose? Myth looked at Y'Tren, and he looked back "What the heck is this, and who or what made this?" he asked Myth leaned against a tree and looked at him "There's something else I wanted to bring up with you--If we can find this today, then we'll know where it is before the others do...first sight, first rights,a nd easy control of the Pool. The creature or person who made this path knows something, I'm sayign we follow it deeper into the island." She looked at him for a response.
  6. It's that extra A that's making you so grumpy! *mischevous grin and a dash to hide behind Zool, before she gets beat up again*
  7. You rock. (mightent you be stronger if you were ardvark? one less extra letter to weigh you down)
  8. There are Meeps and Wiggly Cabbages in the land of the doubles, but no orangutans on another note There is an affection, but no love A happiness, but no joy Feelings, but no truth!
  9. No need to heckle her! I'm sure she'll finish it eventually. Awesome stuff, Rune . I heartily enjoyed it.
  10. someone's read the maltese falcon too much, I'm guessing (or watched, if there's a movie)...it is an awesome book
  11. I hear that we don't have any working space shuttles that are ready to send out, and so they may have to pause the space program. ;(
  12. "So you're just planning to waltz off onto an island that you don't know anything about? You even say it feels wrong and you still just want to waltz off into the middle of it?" Myth looked up at Y'Tren very skeptically. He paused for a moment and looked at her "Do you have any better suggestions?" Gyrfalcon looked up and nodded "We came here to explore this island, and find the pool, what else can we do?" Myth shrugged "I know this isn't natural ranger habit, but I want to split up. As an assassin I can tell you that large groups attract a hell of a lot more attention than small ones. If there is something not-right, and I sort of feel that way too, then I don't want to be in a large group. I'll go alone or with Y'Tren. We can all meet in the middle."
  13. Meanwhile, the shadow glared, and t he bird of paradise shrieked. the bird backed into the corner, adn the shadow advanced. The bird stepped back, but finally it ran into an old heater that hadn't been used in decades. The shadow kept advancing.
  14. Awesome poem. Personally, I think the way you change the order of the sentence can make it feel a bit ackward,b ut I dont' know if you want criticsm, and anyway it's a good piece
  15. I've read it before somewhere, but it's well worth readign again. agreed that the metaphors are the strength of this piece
  16. They won't hurt you if you don't attack them
  17. Look at the present Rune gave me!! It's awesome!! (and much more importantly it's all about Wiggly Cabbages!! : )

  19. I just always prefer real time to not real time.
  20. a mind full of claustrophobic angry hornets?
  21. I too, read this poem once through thinking it said "what do I see" I think it's interestign the way you almost invite us to see it that way. We expect human greed, and anger, so it's all the more impressive to see restraint, and a kind of shame. Cool poem
  22. I just went sledding a couple days ago, and I'm going again today...was watching it snow outside my window all yesterday, and I have only one thing to say: snow ROCKS and I like this peice mm, that's two isn't it. oh well, never claimed to be a math major
  23. Mm, I need to keep with my readign of stories more. By the time I read things everyoen else has already commented. The only comment I have is has, of course already been said--I wish for a few more translations. I got a bit confused in places. I really like the way you build the mentor relationship.
