Valdar and Astralis

I got it in the end, thanks Rune (and for the best wishes, everyone \^_^/) Ended up with me being up at 1.30 am hitting things with a spanner, but it worked. Or maybe that was a dream?

My USB picked up something nasty from dem skanky computers on campus. I cant open anything except for Internet Explorer, and windows explorer (but cant run any programs). This sucks since my laptop (which is my main computer) has a "My Safe" portion, in which I stored a bunch of important stuff, and I cant retreive it Rolling Eyes I'm hoping whatever trojan/virus/thing that possesed my laptop didnt somehow snag my WoW details (I sure as hell didnt log onto anything once I realized it was acting funny, but it might have been latent for a while) and send it through my firewall. Well, I just managed to totally screw myself over. For the record. . .before deciding to format, find your copy of windows FIRST, especially if it's a notebook with all the bells and jingles. I was so convinced it was in the plastic wrapped thingo that I didnt open when I first got the computer (it came pre-installed I think) that I actually sat right down, dumbfounded when I opened it and found the disc wasnt inside (I really dont know where it went). I was so eager to wipe those damm buggers out before they could get to my precious password and shard my epix that now nobody can get to them So things that are screwed up now... Wireless does not work Video card is not recognized by windows (apparently it's a "special" driver you cant get from ATI's website) And then there's this wierd problem with graphics. In a nutshell? it dosnt work. It recognizes the card, says there is no problem, but then: -When I try to start ANY 3d application (except for windows screensaver, which inexplainably works) it just shows a blank screen. -ATI Catalyst control centre has a blank box where the 3d preview is supposed to go. -It becomes super jerky when I try to scroll anywhere (IE, MSWord, whatever). The only word I can describe it as is "tearing" though I'm not sure if thats the exact term. The jerkyness during scrolling inexplainably vanishes when I turn graphics acceleration off (of course, the 3d stuff dosnt work at all then) My noob opinion #1: it's something software. The same problem happened on my desktop, which is why I semi abandoned it until now (Thought I'd puzzle it out after my semester ends) My noob opinion #2: My copy of windows XP is an upgrade. Previously I had windows 98. I totally forgot to install windows 98 on my desktop when I formatted it, but Windows XP _inexplainably_ let me install. It really boggled my mind when I realized that later. Of course, thats when the trouble started. On my notebook, I installed windows 98 first, but it didnt boot up properly the first time and I rammed windows XP right over it immedetly. So uh. . .help? please? Getting the shakes here Embarassed

~Abilities~ Kitanue is an extremely competent fighter and tactician. She can adequately grasp the basics of grand strategy, but is happier (and better) on a single battlefield. She is NOT a duelist, and fights in a brutal, practical manner. A knee in the groin works as well as an elaborate six move setup to get an opponent to expose his neck. As Valdar’s primary guardian, she is just as heavily warded as the Planewalker and can regenerate most wounds. She is somewhat less skilled than Valdar at ear fighting.

~History~ Kitanue was born approximately 400 years ago, rising through the ranks of angels rapidly to the third cohort. After becoming sentient a few years later, and being presented with a soul by her master, she rose to the first rank as one of his chief lieutenants. Acting on a divination revealing the location of the Holy Grail, Kitanue’s master ordered his forces to attack a force of demons guarding the artifact. The battle turned into a meeting engagement, with heavy losses on both sides, including her captain. Kitanue was promoted to replace her, and ordered to escort the grail to the stronghold of the Knights. As the elite escort passed near the Cloud, they were attacked by a larger force of demons. Kitanue left a holding force of Knights and Angels to guard the cargo under her second in command, and routed the attackers. On returning, they found the convoy smashed – betrayed from within. Kitanue was enraged, and ordered a frantic chase into the ambush ridden Cloud. Though they survived against overwhelming numbers, they grail escaped with the traitor, Kaithila. They returned to their master, only to find him and the entire plane destroyed by the Knights of the Grail as punishment for losing the Grail. They were captured while in shock, wings cut off and thrown into the darkness. As their wings slowly grew back in grey, a handful made their way back to the Cloud with vengeance on their minds, selling their bodies to survive. Though they did find the location of the traitor, their strength and numbers had dwindled too much to mount an offensive on Hellwind. So they waited, their numbers slowly dwindling until only Kitanue was left. Hope returned in the form of a wandering apprentice Planewalker. First a customer, then a friend, Kitanue accidentally blurted out the location of the grail when he mentioned it on his second visit. The pair assaulted Hellwind with a group of adventurers and broke into its depths. There, Kitanue finally killed the traitor, only to find the grail there was a fake. When Valdar confronted her she retold her story, which impressed him enough to offer her a new binding – with a lot of leash.

~Personality~ Most of the time, Kitanue is deferential, polite and slightly flirtatious. She speaks with controlled calm and rarely raises her voice. On the battlefield, she is almost a completely different person. She tends to take command automatically with highly aggressive plans. Her clear voice can be heard even in the midst of battle, and tides of war shift at her call!

~Physical Description~ Kitanue is easily mistaken for a cherub – proportioned a little too generously for a battle angel, with blue eyes, tan skin and blonde hair bordering on white. She is Valdar’s primary guardian and captain to his small fighting force. She stands at about 1.5 - 1.7 meters depending on her ear position. Like Valdar, her long ears are flexible and can be used to convey messages or feeling. After a recent expedition into the parallels, Kitanue’s wings have become fully black with streaks of red, and her skin taken on a slightly redder hue. (Not written yet)

~Brief Description~ Some angels fall from grace by plummeting into the depths of hell, embracing the corruption and becoming worse than the evil demons they were born to fight. Most of them hit the ground halfway between the heavens and hells with a wet splat. Little more than mortals, these fallen are frequently distrusted – after all, they already failed once, causing them to have their wings clipped and tossed out from the heavens. Most die within days, but some – like Kitanue manage to eke out a meager existence until Valdar found her. She tends to wear little armor, relying on skill and speed to survive.

Not sure if this is the right place, but one thing that I read lateley that got beyond "somewhat entertaining" was Starship Troopers. Having seen the movie, I must say the book is vastly different. Basicly the movie is about the war (whee, boom, smash, crash, eh?) while the book is about the culture. And I must say it made me think a bit on if we're really being over politically correct in some ways. Highly reccomended, and its not a thick book.

~Other~ Valdar usually just curls up on the couch in the cabaret room when tired, but his quarters at the Pen are fairly extensive. It contains a doorway to the Astral, housing for a number of angelic caretakers, a fake Holy Grail and Waterlilly, which guards and polishes his Shiny collection. Bubble is Valdar’s mount, a 9 foot tall demon footsoldier. The little elf usually sits astride its neck and holding on to the horns. Two people can ride Bubble if one sits on each shoulder. Kitanue is Valdar’s herald and guardian, with her own description post.

~Items~ 1 x Katana (Saido) – A gift from Kitanue. This was her previous master’s sword, a powerful planar artifact of good that reflects white fire in the blade. 2 x Crystal Earblades – These are mounted on Valdar’s ears when he wanders the paths, and cut through most materials easily. They can be thrown in a returning arc. ??? x Shinies – Valdar usually carries a number of shinies around with him for various purposes. ??? x Toys – Valdar has an extensive toy collection, which he adorns with shinies (or _are_ shinies themselves). Amoung these, a set of Planewalker action figures which he sets up for mock battles. “Uncle Dreamer” usually wins.

~Abilities~ In addition to his magical and planewalking abilities, Valdar is an expert in the art of ear-speak and fighting. He is somewhat proficient with a blade in his hands as educated by uncle Gyrfalcon but is by no means a master.

~Personality~ Valdar is very open and trusting of familiar members of the Pen. Adults are automatically “uncle” or “auntie” and gets along well with all the other children (The sole exception is Minta, who stays away from him fearing boy cooties). He is also very free with his magical abilities and treats everyone as his equal or better. When it comes to planar and outsiders, Valdar thinks of celestials as friends, and abyssals as pets.
