The Pen is Mightier than the Sword

Creative Writing Exercise #6

Recommended Posts

Take any of your EQ/AM/Pen characters and put them in the modern world. No swords, no wizards, no laser guns, time machines or portals...Modern day real world. Who would they be? What would their interests be? Where would they live, what would their job be?

Only, don't write it in the form of Sal would be a blah blah in blah blah city etc. Write it in story form. Pick a day of their life and somehow portray their lifestyles through that day. Whether it be through thought reflection or however you wish to portray it. :0)

No rules accept that it has to be in story form and in modern day.

(Been a long time since I've posted one of these!!)

Lilpixie in all her miniature blue splender flits into the curiosity shop and takes up he position on the counter. She sits on an old match box near the cash register her job to greet customers as they come in and direct them to the things that they are looking for. It is very hard as she really would like to be a bit of a prankster but that would result in her loing her job. Her fear is that the secret shopper will some day come in and give her poor customer service points.

Day done and no unsatified customers she collectes her pay and heads home like all the regular Joe's not even many people notice her as she tiredly wings her way to the door. :fairy:

A patch of light drifted in through the tall window of Lelu's bedroom window of her large loft/studio. Eyes blinking from the invasion of light, she sat up and stretched anew. This new day found her in a good mood as she went about preparing for her day. She showered and made breakfast for herself, then proceeded to feed her white feline. A knock on her door made her turn away from her task at hand. Answering the door found her face to face with her soon-to-be fiancee, Joseph, or so she hoped. She recieved a peck on the cheek and a swift hello from the man she loved and was promptly asked if she was ready to go. A simple nod answered his question as she grabbed her over-stuffed bag and her coat. The two stepped into the flow of side-walk traffic as they made their way to the local coffee shop. Finding a table outside of the small coffee shop, they ordered their drinks and waited patiently. There was an ackward silence between the two and Lelu found this odd. They normally always had something to talk about. Joseph seemed to be fidgeting with something in his coat pocket and Lelu raised an eyebrow. He looked to be about to say something, when their drinks arrived and he was detained once more. They downed their drinks, like they always did and were on their way. Their first stop was the large veterinary clinic, Lelu's work. Joseph hugged her tight and said a quick goodbye before disappearing in the crowd of people, heading for his own work. "Odd." Lelu said more to herself than to anyone else. Walking inside the large, revolving glass doors she was met with a rush of noise: the constant ring of a phone, dogs barking, cats meowing and an assortment of other animal sounds. This was Lelu's home away from home. She had been interested in animals since she was a child and when she reached college, she couldn't help but pursue this dream of hers. There was little else, except Joseph, that she was interested in. She had met Joseph one day at the coffee shop and they had instantly bonded.

Taking messages from the receptionist, she made her way back to her office. Her day was going to be busy, as usual, but she enjoyed being busy. It never left any time to be bored. The day passed quickly, as it always had and she stood outside the large sliding glass doors, awaiting Josephs arrival. Twenty minutes later, Joseph still hadn't arrived. Figuring he got caught up at work, she made her way the short distance back to her cozy loft. Opening her door, she was surprised to see a bunch of rose petals scattered across her living room floor. Her jaw hung open at the sight before her. She knew the only person who could be responsible for this: Joseph. "Surprised?" Came the voice from behind her. She spun around to see Joseph, smiling happily. She turned and walked inside, still speechless. "Well?"

She nodded. "Yes, what is this about?" Joseph approached her slowly, his dark brown eyes holding her. He stopped infront of her and dropped to one knee. Lelu's eyes widened as realization hit her.

"Lelu, will you marry me?"

Lelu's voice squeaked as she tried to talk. Clearing her throat, tears formed in her eyes. "Yes, I will." This was one moment, Lelu would never forget. Joseph meant the world to her. They shared so many interests. Such as: the love of animals, the joy of writing and so much more. Such is the life of Lelu.

Sitting back in his leather chair, Elrond awaited the next patient. The door opened and the man standing slightly to one side of it waited for his eyes to adjust to the dimmer light before he entered. His hesitation at the entrance for the quick flick of eyes which assessed the room in an instant.

Elrond in turn noted the darting eyes, the slight jitter of hands. As the man crossed silently and took the chair placed back to the wall with a view of Elrond, the door, and the one window, Elrond smiled to himself. As usual with cases of this type, this man would probably blend into the crowd as a habit, hoping to draw no potentially lethal attention - but emotionally lament never being noticed.

He didn't bother to offer shaking hands.

Smoothing the knife-sharp crease on his Armani slacks, he sat patiently, centering himself and becoming still. Subtly but visibly matching his breathing to the man's he allowed his breathing to slow gradually. When the hands ceased moving restlessly, he allowed himself a slight smile, knowing that it would be detected.

The man frowned and his eyes rapidly dialated and then contracted.

"Why I am paying you for silence?"

"You're paying me to help you reintegrate the shards of a broken personality."

And the day began.

Annael quickly looked at the time before marking her place in her novel and standing up. Smoothing her hair back and pinnning it on top of her head, she picked up the slim case that sits in the corner of her room and runs downstairs. Shouting out a farwell to her parents, she jumps in her little car and drives much to fast, listening to loud music much to loudly, a cigarette glowing in the dark.

Arriving at her destination, Annael lets her favourite song play out, flicks her cigarette butt off into the night and gets out of her car. Walking across the darkened lot, she slips the slim case higher onto her shoulder with the strap and starts down the stairs. Letting her eyes adjust to the lighting and the smokey atmosphere, she smiles and starts to weave her way amongst the patrons. Stopping to shake hands and give out hugs, she finally ends up at her table.

Giving the customary kisses to the people there, she unzips the slim case and takes out the two pieces of wood and begins to screw them together. Setting a piece of chalk on the railing, she sights down the shaft before letting the butt of it rest on the toe of her boot. A young man walks up next to her and wraps his arm around her shoulders. Leaning into Andrew, Annael looks at the gathered group.

"So what's the game tonight. 8 Ball, 9 Ball?"
