  1. It is now Day Phase. Voting will be closed at midnight Pacific Time on Friday night.
  2. Philip watched the party from his suite upstairs, monitoring several cameras as his sneer battled with a growing worried frown. He had to be here. The invitation had been sent and everyone who'd been able to catch a hint of Stealth's plans said he would be - Ah, there he was! Philip looked twice to verify that the "gentleman" tapping Mr. Coolio on the shoulder was Stealth himself. "There he is," he snarled and headed for the elevator. He was followed by two middle-aged men who tried very hard to look like they belonged at the party. By the time Philip neared Mr. Coolio, Stealth had reached a fever pitch of anger and frustration. "No! You have to tell me," he shouted, grabbing at Mr. Coolio's lapels to keep him from backing away. "MY agent dumped me. No one else in town will talk to me - they all hang up as soon as they know it's me! I'm getting flamed up and down the 'net for stuff that isn't on the album THAT HASN'T EVEN BEEN RELEASED YET, and no one will tell me what's -" "What's going on here?" Philip smoothly interrupted the shrill rant. "It's very simple, and I'll be glad to explain once you let go of the gentleman." Philip nodded to his companions who moved around behind Mr. Coolio and Stealth as the two separated. "You see, Stealth, all the illegal copies of songs from your album - poor quality that they were - as well as several tracks from Lily's new album... they were all traced back to one account here at the studio. Yours." Several people gasped and stepped back from Philip and Stealth. Stealth paled and began to stutter confusedly, but Philip overrode him again. "Oh yes, it's been checked quite thorougly. The account you asked for in our system, so you could do some of your production at home and upload it, so you "wouldn't risk losing a CD on the way" and nonsense of that kind? That account accessed Lily's recent work and uploaded both her recordings and yours to several music trading hotspots." Stealth continued stuttering denials and requests for explanations until Philip motioned to his companions and said, "Oh, and Stealth? Our legal department would like to... talk with you about it." Stealth was led away. No one moved or said a word until his stunned silence broke with a frantic shriek. "No!!! I didn't -" The door closed. Those assembled for the party grabbed their drinks and burst into conversation, seemingly seeking normality in an excess of party atmosphere. OOC: Stealth's contract is likely to be severed, but whether or not he still has a contract by the time he's done with the legal department's questions, he and his album will be so tied up in red tape that it's unlikely to EVER be released - legally. WE know that Stealth is as innocent as he says - so who uploaded the files and tipped Philip off to their premature release? Discuss, debate, accuse, defend - you have 48 hours to vote. No OOC reason is necessary for your vote, but please clearly state IN your OOC line who your accusation vote is for. It's now just after 10pm Pacific Time on Wednesday night. Voting will be closed at midnight Friday night.
  3. Roles PM'd. And just for giggles - y'all were *supposed* to have the roles you were assigned! I rerolled each one and they came up the same...
  4. Okay, sign up is now officially closed. You should all receive your roles in PM shortly.
  5. Okay, so at this moment our cast list reads: Mynx - Carrie Dee Savage Dragon - Mr. Coolio NightFae - Alexia Lee Gryphon - Seth Able Giles Jordan - Giles Jordan dragonqueen - Charmaine Meeks Tanuchan - Vanessa Lochmond I've been requested to leave this open a few hours longer for one more possible player. It's nearly 3pm Pacific Time now, I'll close sign up and PM roles at 10pm Pacific Time tonight. Y'all have time to get yourselves to the party and mingle, and I'll post the NPC kill tomorrow evening.
  6. Sheila wove her way around the room, a drink in her left hand leaving her right hand free to flutter overly cheery waves to people she recognized or a brief touch on the arm of those she knew so that her presence would be generally recognized. The slightly dim lighting was nice, giving an air of intimacy to what was, essentially, a meet-and-greet. She stood back for a moment and looked over the gathering crowd. This should be a good chance to meet some potential clients. Now, where to start?
  7. great! =) For those who already know who they're playing, the game thread is up and ready. Open roleplay now - I'll post here when sign-up is closed and then PM out roles. NO PM alliances - any alliances must be formed in game through RP. If you need to PM back and forth about the game, please CC the PM to me so I know what's going on. and have fun! =)
  8. Philip brow furrowed as he sat staring at the growing pile of charts, new releases, and projected releases. Small record labels were bound to have a smaller percentage of market share, but this was preposterous! He stalked down the hall and burst into the Sheila's office waving printouts angily. "One song in the Top 40? ONE?! I thought you were marketing our artists, or isn't that what the Marketing department does?" he snarled. Sheila looked up at her boss, wondering again if he'd left bodybuilding for the music business. The dark hair falling into his face didn't, however, disguise the flash in his brown eyes or angry flush darkening his deeply tanned face. She took a deep breath and calmly replied, "It would be easier to market artists if we had new music TO market. Three of our bands got better contracts elsewhere, so we couldn't re-sign them. One of our artists is in the hospital, and the others are either between albums or on tour. We don't HAVE anyone else to market right now. What else can I do?" Philip sneered at the slightly plump blonde behind the desk. "I know you're not as dumb as you look - or as you play at being, and I didn't THINK 28 was too old to party. Get on the phone to the agents. Mix at parties. Do whatever it is you do to find hopefuls and bring them in. If you can't market thin air, then I suggest you find something to fill it." He ignored her glare and stomped away, slamming the door behind him. Sheila considered throwing something at the door, but since she couldn't throw HIM, she decided against it. She thought, and thought, then slowly grew an evil smile. "You wanted a party? You'll GET a party," she purred. OOC: You are now at a huge party which has been billed as "Private" and "Exclusive" so that everyone will want to go. Most of the label's A&R staff are here, unusually willing to check out the plethora of hopefuls as well as circulate with agents they know and trust - more or less. You're in a small city, in a hotel ballroom, dress-code semi-formal. Meet and mingle, and if you need to invent NPCs feel free, just let me know. No PM alliances - any alliances must be formed in game via RP. If you need to PM to coordinate movements for any reason (or for any other game related reason) please CC the PM to me, so I know what's going on and don't cross you up in my posting.
  9. Since I know you both, and she wouldn't post for you without permission, yes. =) Besides, if you want to "tweak" your character description later, you can always do so. Hope you feel better soon!
  10. wow! very cool, rev! congrats, indeed!
  11. Nice. =) Just popping in for a mo' to let y'all know that I'm going to have to shove the time frame back a bit since we *really* need another player or two, and some of our possibles haven't been on to check messages. I've just gotten home, so once meds kick in I'll throw this open for introductory/open RP. I won't close sign-up until monday night or tuesday morning, so roles won't be PM'd out until tuesday evening. I want everyone to have a shot at character introduction without any role-bias. =) And again, I'm really hoping to draw in a couple more players to make the game more viable. If you know someone who might be interested in playing, feel free to poke them.
  12. Nice. =) Will have to see if we can drag in a couple other people in the next couple of days, too. LOVE the characters! =)
  13. Have you ever taken a step and felt your shinbone move?
  14. *treat people gently. your kind word may be the only one they hear this day, this week... *when manners seem most pointless is when they're most needed. *never speak of serious matters when angry or exhausted. If you don't regret it, chances are your audience will. *just because someone feels strongly about something doesn't mean they're right. (yes, that includes me.) *just because someone's wrong doesn't mean they're completely wrong. *the only person i can count on to change something i'm dissatisfied with is me. if i don't like it, i'd better do something about it instead of waiting for someone else to. *small contributions are no less deserving of recognition than large ones. i don't know how hard that small contribution was, or how easy the larger effort was. assuming it was the other way 'round is unfair to both. *appreciation felt should be expressed. and thank you, rev, for making a point i wanted to but was too tired to think how to. once again, you have the right words at the right time. =)
  15. sweet!!! "Only" a college magazine isn't an *only* - you do know that, right? =)
  16. Welcome to the recording industry! This game, we're a part of a small record label, working in and around a recording studio. As a player, your options are varied. You may be an artist (or part of a band, though you would speak/act for your band as a whole) trying to break into the business and score a contract. You may be a contracted artist/band trying to protect your market share. Or you may be a studio technician or marketing agent working with the new talent. As a wolf, your job would be to make maximum use of your unauthorized access to the newly recorded music, by distributing low quality and/or distorted versions of unreleased tracks across the internet to discourage sales of your competitor's new album (or the new album of someone you dislike, if you're a tech or in marketing). As a seer, your friends in the record label's security staff discuss with you any unauthorized access they've noticed, letting you know who it was traced back to if they've discovered that yet. As a baner, you have friends of your own in the record label's security staff and can recommend, based on rumours or intuition, that a particular artist's work be encrypted/removed that night . Wolf kills and lynchings - the method chosen would really depend on the night phase/day phase accusation roleplay to determine which would be more appropriate to the story line. Either there would be enough suspicion raised and loud accusation that the record label would choose to cut its losses in public image and terminate your contract, or the label's legal department would act on information received and file a lawsuit against you, keeping you so wrapped in red tape that any further recording would be impossible. For studio employees, you would be fired, with or without blacklisting depending on whether it's a wolf kill or a lynching. Ever wanted to break into the music scene? Here's your chance! =) Sign-up will close at 9am Pacific time on Sunday the fifteenth. I'll open the thread for introductory roleplay by noon, and PM your roles Sunday night.
  17. Holy crap! an Aardvark sighting!! and an Aardvark story!!! *squeeeeeeee* =) *tacklehugs the aardvark* DANG it's good to see you again!!! Oh yes, story! Lessee... Paragraph one might need to streamline this a bit? You've as many comma separated partial thoughts here as my first drafts usually have, and I hear that's not a good thing. Paragraph two "I couldn't help take stock of my situation." Missing something here - "couldn't help but" or "couldn't help taking" would read smoothly. "A human-shaped, translucent ghosts," A ghost? A is singular, ghosts is plural - which are you? continuing on, then... "Hours past." Hours past - what? Or did you mean Hours *passed*? Probably the latter, since you refer later on to more time having passed. As a whole - I *really* like this. For once, I had a sense of where you were going with this, but that's probably only because this is something that's bounced around my head now and then (which REALLY makes me question your sanity, but that's a whole other point). This is well done. You've included enough detail to make the environment real for an engaged reader, but not so much detail that you lose the reader in the forest of minutiae. You also portray an evolving awareness very well, and very naturally. It seems as though the train of thought he followed would be the only way one *would* react to those circumstances. Nicely done. And I am SO glad to see you pop back up here! *nails your boots to the floor*
  18. Ever gotten a phone call from the vice principal at the high school suggesting your daughter might be on drugs because lack of sleep due to pain, and the pain, and the anti-inflammatories combined with a deep hatred of one of her classes left her "mostly comatose" in class - and of course drug use could be the only explanation...?
  19. Ayshela slips into the Birthday Room and quickly rearranges it, dimming the lights and putting a patented Comfy Chair in one corner. She tosses a blanket across the footstool, adjusts the lamp behind the chair so that it is bright enough for reading but not bright enough to cause headaches. One side of the chair is stacked high with books while the other has a table with snacks and Mt. Dew. Stepping back, she surveys the scene. "I think I've got everything. He can read, or nap, or sit and talk with people. Oh yes! The banner!" She left the room, quickly returning with a cart piled high with birthday paraphernalia. The table was quickly filled with a punch bowl and glasses, while plates and silverware surrounded a large cake which was guaranteed to please - each slice becoming the recipient's favourite flavour. She hung a banner over the chair then went to bring Peredhil to his birthday party. Happy Birthday to the one and only Peredhil! *flying tacklehugs*
  20. two very different smells associate with different "homes" for me. Sage always reminds me of the home I lived in as a young child. Vanilla reminds me of the home I created for myself and my children.
  21. Hey Nick! Glad to see you about! I don't read tabloids, personally, so what I remember of them is from back in the days of snagging a Weekly World News for the kids' dad when he was in bed sick, purely for distraction and amusement while he was recovering. What makes a tabloid unbelievable? That would be quite the laundry list, actually. Poor grammar - how could accuracy have been verified if it hadn't even been edited for spelling or grammar? Loose to non-existant logic. Sensational stories along the line of "Innocent swimmer carrying Loch Ness Monster's baby!" And oh, the photos... grainy and obviously edited for those you can tell what it's supposed to be, the rest could be photos of a light fixture taken while the camera was moving, for all you could tell what anything was supposed to be. O_o They were badly written, the photos were worse, and I never found them worth more than a snort and giggle standing in the checkout line bored enough to be scanning headlines.
