  1. Speaking of homes; I may have to completely bow out of the internet for a week or so, and abruptly. The snows that hit the Eastern United States did not leave yer Loremaster out of the loop, and the subsequent water damage means they may have to dissect the front of my townhouse to fix the problem. This is also where our cable runs, so...yeah. >< I'll keep y'posted.
  2. As you may've noticed, Jason Newcomb has stepped up to the plate in organization of Assembly, Crtic's and Conservatory. I still have no bloody time to do the heavy work like this much topic moving (probably won't for at least another two weeks), so all help is useful and appreciated. Anyone else? Shoot, at this time of year, I guess I should ask: Anyone home?
  3. In theaters now: The Twilight Saga: New Moon Disney's Christmas Carol Coming to theaters soon: Up in the Air Sherlock Holmes Al Roker, of all people, has written a murder mystery. I'm not kidding. It's called The Morning Show Murders. Oh, and Brad Pitt owns the movie rights to Max Brooks' World War Z. We'll see how that goes...
  4. Okay, Initiate to Page is now going to change by posting- and that's all! We'll see A) If I did it correctly, and If it works out, Page to Quill-Bearer will make the same change. If all of this DOES work out, there will be no other changes to how you change ranks. Honoured Guests will still have to be accepted to become Initiates, and Quill-Bearers will still have to complete a Quill Quest. That's non-negotiable, bippy. 'Cos if we' don't challenge you, how will you get stronger?
  5. Only have time for a quickie. Percy Jackson and the Olympians is coming to movie theaters. So is 'How to Tame a Dragon'-from the creatirs of Shrek and Kung Fu Panda, no less. Dark Tower! SQUEEEEEE! The Marvelous Land of Oz, from Marvel Comics, issue #2 hit stores today. Snyp- Eve Forward? Hot damn, man!! The fact alone that you know it EXISTS...! (are you Superman? O_o)
  6. Be careful what you wish for, Lok. ^^ Shoot, even if it's just you and me, I'll take you on in a bluster contest any day.
  7. Okay, here's the edits to date: The Conservatory is now RP AND plays, and has been noted as such in the forum description.-I didn't actually do any thread moving to accomplish this yet; I don't know when it'll be done, but sometime soon, abso. Volunteers? FAQ edited to reflect the Conservatory's new status. Can be viewed in Now that I'm registered, where do I post what?-Again, no threads moved yet. Volunteers here? All English language plays would be in the Assembly Room. FAQ edited to give an up-to-date contact list for who to contact about getting your own news items on the News page. Can be found in How do I get my stuff in it? FAQ edited to clarify current status of promotions. Can be viewed in Ranks and Advancement FAQ edited to clarify mission of and current status of guilds. Can be viewed here Library is, as it always has been, the spot for any work not originally created here, but is now noted more clearly in the forum description. Coming changes: An Initiate becoming a Page will be decided by post count. English language plays will be moved into the Conservatory. Works that are not original on the Pen will be moved to the Library. An archive of deleted posts, original versions of revised ones, etc. visible to all mods and Admins will be created. How goes it with you, Z and Loki? (hopefully exams are well?)
  8. Sorry I didn't deliever in my quoted timeframe. In short, I looooove working retail at Christmastime. As for the technical changes, I'm sticking with simplest being best. I'll go through *tomorrow* (and since it'll be a busyness level of a Tuesday, I know I've no worries about being absconded with) and rework the wordings of what we're all about and *maybe* polish up the FAQ (but, one thing at a time!!), then Wednesday or Thursday, change the order of advancing into full site access to thus: Vistior: same. Initiate-QB: by posting. Mod (full Mod) and/or Admin: by it being given to you ONLY. I'm not sure if the post count privilege change settings will automatically add in certain Mod powers AND board visibility, but I'll make sure it will, if it won't. I'll of course keep you updated on *all* changes, as they happen. Your running commentary will help out a lot too. Z & Loki: I have to agree with Peredhil. I like the idea of setting up in-site stuff like "best of 2010 Poetry" (voting'd be EASY to set up) and of mailing older folks. Take what you've got so far, and keep running with it. Oh, and keep me posted, too? Excelsior!!
  9. ...the Cat in the Hat, at the end of the world...
  10. Oh- I'm going to do the rewrites first- not much point in streamlining the technical end if the explanations don't tell you what's what. For now, because I just attempted to spell 'streamlining' with an '-ight-', I'm going to bed. Ta!
  11. We're already almost there, all that we have left to finish the trip is the mod/admin end: rewrite the codex so it makes any (current)sense, reset the board so each user increases in permissions just by posting (we may or may not leave the auto-cutoff at just before full Mod priv- we'll see.), rewrite the room descrips so they are clearer, and do some reorganizing of the Mod/Admin forums. I have a work to attend tomorrow, and a one-year anniversary to attend on Wednesday (w00t), so I'll get started on the above either Thursday morning or evening (work comes in the afternoon, and finishes evetime). If there're any other suggestions, I'll take 'em, but fair warning: I really want to keep this Occam's Razor, A.K.A., keep it simple. Excelsior!
  12. Don't leave beer in the freezer overnight. If you can tell it's a once in a lifetime chance, take it. Cracking your back/neck is NOT okay- you risk slipping a disc in your spine. Cracking your toes, fingers, wrists, etc., on the other hand, is fine. If your 'better' judgement has less logic than your 'impulsiveness', don't listen to it. Work before play.
  13. Stephen King sold J.J. Abrams the movie rights to The Dark Tower for $19. /me screams girlishly.
  14. *reads Snyp's comment about his own work, and thinks he's being anal retentive* ... Ba-ZING!
  15. 'I feel my roots digging into the soil yeah it's feeding me I feel the truth is a friend of the toil now it's leading me' -No More Kings, "Umbrella"
  16. If music isn't soothing you, you're listening to the wrong music. All-nighters are okay on an OCCASIONAL basis. Never accept that it's "just a kid's book" or "just a kid's game". If you want to learn it, learn it. Make copies. Learn how to grow your own vegetables.
  17. Wyvern, For always taking the time for our site, no matter what disagreements may happen. Peredhil, For your unflagging compassion. Needed everywhere, extra treasured because we *always* get it here. Gwaihir, For still watching. Giles, For forgetting no-one. Jason Newcomb, For coming back, and for sharing what you found while you were out. Oxygenplant, For honesty. Mai Takekaze, For never forgetting our little clubhouse, and proudly flashing your membership card. Jomeansme, For trusting us. Patrick, For fixing what's broke. Tanny, For being Den mother extraordinaire. Kikuyu, For bombastic presence and words to songs I can almost hear. Degorram, For keen mind and joyful heart. Snypiuer, For making me laugh or think every time. Hjolnai, For being the "new kid" most likely to unseat 'Iron Man' Wyvern. Tzimfemme, For in actual fact, being Ray Bradbury, Spider Robinson, and Harlan Ellison in one.
  18. Ahhhh. Any relation to the Russian spirit named 'Leshii'?
  19. "Outside of a dog, a book is man's best friend. Inside of a dog, it's too dark to read." -Groucho Marx Cheers to the finer things in life.
  20. Awesome, I'd say. It reads*exactly* as though it were riddles. (Lesidhe! Lesidhe старой страны?)
  21. I like it. It makes just enough sense, and I like that.
  22. I am far too much of a geek for my own good apparently- I had to wrestle with my own perception suddenly and violently at the fourth stanza; until then, I had this image of an assassin waitin in the trees to slay a target seeing someone they've come to fall in love with while waiting and watching the area...but *somehow* the last stanza gave me the hint I was wayyyyyyy off base. {:>) Wonderful stuff; my brain damage aside, as Wyvern said, very sweet, actually, to the point of sounding like an old, old folk song that doesn't even have music, having never been written, but sung again and again.
  23. I honestly have no idea what to say other than "Beautiful."
  24. Writers were never meantto eat well, I think. If we were, then we'd all be millionaires AND have DECENT movies based on our work every time. Welcome back, as always.
