  1. Well, the holidays and NaNoWriMo have been mad, but fun! How is everyone?
  2. 'Axe Cop', the webcomic created by a five-year old writer and his twenty-nine year old artist brother has signed on with Dark Horse comics to be published in print! DC Comics has released what the Green Lantern costume will look like in the upcoming feature film. Hm.
  3. Holy CRAP, I'm behind! Amongst much rumor and hopeful candles in the dark, Dean Koontz's third installment of Frankenstein has come and gone...and now we're on to a fourth!! Mothers, hide your daughters! The movie version of Eclipse, by Stephenie Meyer is in theaters now. I know Twilight had one of Jackie Chan's stunt coordinators... Four more months 'til NaNoWriMo! Glenn Beck has written a novel! The Overton Window. If it's anywhere near as good as Newt Gingrich's historical novels written along with William R. Fortschen, we may yet see the 'Conservative Adventure Fiction' section in our local bookstores! I hope so, that name makes me giggle. DC Comics has delayed the release of Blackest Night graphic novels. ARGH.
  4. A shadow peels away from the wall to fix Corwin with a back gaze. The thing primly hands him a tightly rolled sheet of vellum and promptly disappears under Degorram's office door. The paper reads: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Dear Sir, You I like. May love and wine their rights maintain, Ozymandias ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  5. We have a Place; we have a time we have a method- We have a Rhyme We are a Plant; we have a fruit they have a fence- We have a Root You are a Potter; you are a cooper you are a stranger- You are Closer You air a Thought; you are astute they are a class- You are eschewed
  6. but do any of you fine Pennites have recording equipment and the time to use it on a monthly basis? It's rather important to the future of the Pen, you see... Thanks ever so much! ~~
  7. Every day, except for the past week. Work surprised me with a South Carolina trip... and I FORGOT to eat any barbeque!! T_T
  8. "If Tora isn't dead," Sterns shouted above the maelstrom, "I am going to KILL him!!" The faint imprints on our world that Lily's kin who had NOT so successfully crossed over had made fought for life. They also fought for the flesh of the two powerful magic users who had blundered into them on their way up the moutain. Stern's niece cackled in glee as she burned down shadow after shadow with eye-searing gouts of lava from her right hand. The wind that knocked Cara off her her feet again and again, however, seemed not to bother Sterns in the least. His footing remained firm even as the wind around niece and uncle whipped into a frenzy caused by the shadows' fury. Sterns primly stuck out his left foot, and an enormous calcite foot erupted from the ground to smash another shadow to its component pieces. He scowled so deeply Cara briefly worried that he would hurt his forehead.
  9. Tora watched the demonness. The demonness watched Tora. The storm nobles continued their work with such vigor that the flood of water over the cave mouth became a wall, and the thunder truly became their cannon fire. Water began to trickle from the ceiling. Slowly it was, at first, but before long it was a steady drip into the dry dirt between them. Finally, she stood. Tora remained crouched, not daring to move. With easy grace and great dignity, she straightened Tora's blanket about her. Still without a step toward the apprentice, she spread her hands in front of her as if to show she held no weapon, and asked politely, "Shall we try that again?"
  10. "I..I can't do this! I'm not even a full mage yet! I want to keep my soul!! I didn't even know that's a summoning ring!!", Tora wailed under the demonness' leer. Her smile contorted into a scowl that held no trace of the human face she wore. "CONTRACT!", she roared, and drove her left hand at him with incredible speed. Tora only had time to flinch. Her fingers flashed past his head to smash their way whole inches into the rock wall behind him. However, as gravel and dust ricocheted off of the back of his head, he had retrieved the image of the soothing whirlpool of colors in his ring from his memory. Fear was washed away in an instant, and the strongest defense that Cara had taught him was already falling from his lips in a torrent. Summoned by him or no, the shade in front of him was hurled into the opposite wall of the cave with such force that the rock itself shook, and more debris rained from the ceiling. Tora scrambled to his feet, looking a for a stick, a rock, ANY sort of weapon. He found only his potatoes. The demonness was conscious, but did not rise to her own feet. Instead, she lay where she had fallen and stared at him, wide-eyed.
  11. Hallo folks, just a quick one from ye olde Ozy: I'm not dead. Huzzah. My room more than somewhat is; this means among other things my net connection will be at best spotty for another week. Perhaps two. Tzimfemme and myself (Tzim as far as I know, anyway) are the only active mods now. So we need more. So right now, I have GOT to go to bed, but tomorrow through Wednesday watch your inboxes- You just might become a moderator! Ta~!
  12. *still lost in contemplation of the "Multiquote" button and hears none of this*
  13. Use a surge protector on every computer. A little lobster goes a long way. When you most don't want to do something is often the perfect time to do it.
  14. Okay, one more update for now: Going from Page to Quill-Bearer will now change by posting. Again, no, going above QB will NOT be changing. You've still got to do a Quill Quest. Your imagination needs love too.
  15. Well everyone, as you may have noticed, we have a new annual tradition! Starting on the first of this month, and ending on the ninth (and being posted thirteen days later than I'd promised. Mea culpa! ^^; ) there was a vote for what the best poetry in all of The Banquet Room is for this year. The turnout? Miniscule. The selections? Slick. Have a look. If you want to see the voting thread, it's archived in the Critic's Corner under 'Best Poems-2010'. The thread is closed, so if you've any questions, comments, etc., either message me, or leave them them here. Thanks again!
  16. A social introduction post should go here in the Cabaret Room, not one of the other forums. However, any such introduction is always welcome. So, welcome! Please make yourself at home.
  17. Do not inhale ground cinnamon, or put it in your eyes. Do not drink Carnation Instant Breakfast without adding liquid to it first. Always read gift certificates thoroughly and completely.
  18. Esteemed Gryphon, So glad your dragons and giants could help me find all of my gunpowder stores from seasons past! That was such a neighborly thing to do Sir, you put put an old king to shame. I am humbled. I also feel a bit silly. However did I manage to forget I'd stored every last grain of it in the trees along our shared border? The memory truly IS the first thing to go. (I DO hope that- Surtur, was it? Finds all of his toes.) Please do let me know, good neighbor, if your find any bags of holding in and further patrols? They're my oldest, and as such, heirlooms. The ones I've lost are also where I like to keep my glacier collection. Do be careful, though. As I have mentioned, these are OLD bags, and as such are a bit tatty, and quite likely to tear if they are not handle with the utmost care. I'd hate for their contents to fall on anyone. Warmest regards, ~Ozymandias~
  19. My Dear Loki, Your enthusiam remains, as ever, inspiring! I truly applaud such initiative! But my dear fellow, I had no idea that you had quite so many undead in your gathering of forces. However is a mage to cope? Please, accept this gift of the slow time bubble I have already taken the liberty around your entire kingdom as a token of our friendship at such a difficult time for you- after all, one can't have one's forces succumbing to rigor mortis or mold at too early a stage, can one? I apologize profusely as I currently have other pressing matters to attend to, and so cannot be of anymore help at this time than to relay to you what my own researches tell me- look for a rain of flaming stones in the next week or so! Say, in the next hour or two. What brought this sudden skill in meteorology, I'm sure you're asking yourself. Elementary, Sir! I am a retiree, after all. So I read. I dabble now in several things that I feel may assist you in the management of your own in tenfold repayment of the kindnesses you have shown me- as soon as I find the time! Sincerely, ~Ozymandias~
  20. My Dear Loki Wyrd, It has been far too long since we have corresponded! How are your serfs? Tilling away, I trust? I assume so, as you remain amazingly exuberant in the raising of your orchards- which, may I add was a rather clever move. I certainly did not expect it the very next season after I had expressly asked you not to. They DO still block the sunlight for my vineyards, as you no doubt remember, busy year though it has been. In light of such a masterful surprise, please accept the gift of Blue Dragons, Treants, Sprites, and Shadow Creatures I have massed on your borders as a token of my appreciation of such slyness. If you would be so good as to die this time, I would be forever grateful. I remain your neighbor, and closest acquaintance, ~Ozymandias~
  21. There are too many poems in here to make ONE clickable vote for this thread, so please, write in the name of the poem or poems that you think are best out of everything here in the Banquet Room. Please include links as well, if you can. The results will be 'The Best of Pen Poetry' for this year. We'll vote again next December. The vote will be closed by January 8th, and list will be posted in 'The Pen Recommends' January 9th.
  22. Ben "Yahtzee" Croshaw of 'Zero Punctuation' and 'fullyramblomatic.com' fame is writing a fantasy novel entitled Mogworld that will be published through Dark Horse Books (the book publishing arm of Drak Horse Comics). The novel The Repossession Mambo by Eric Garcia is the subject of the upcoming movie Repo Men. Kick-Ass, the creator-owned comic book by Mark Millar (of many, MANY of Marvel Comics' Ultimate comics fame) is coming to theaters in 2010 as well. We're on Facebook! Look us up! Tell your friends!
  23. Skype is not so good for me- not due to my comp, but due to interrupting roommate. As for tossing ideas around, tho'- my own litle one is every time I post on the webcomics I read, I fill in the Pen url as 'My Website'. No idea if that's attracted anybody, but hey, can't hurt.
  24. I'm neither claiming nor pretending to be captain of this ship - I was just letting you know how we currently meet. Thanks for supplying the particulars Signe. Oh come now- Captaincy does not equal having ideas. What's on your mind? Jason's not the only one who wants t'know... (and thanks Wyv!)
