  1. Oh! Imperator of Inebriation, Baron of Booze, Sultan of Spirits, Duke of the Drink, I revel in your words and listen intently to your tale.
  2. When it comes to social situations I'd have to say that I lean pretty strongly towards the shy side. When with people I know and am familiar with I have no problems interacting, but when the people around are new and unfamiliar, I become very self-conscience. However, I'm slowly beginning to work my way toward a healthy median between shy and outgoing. When it applies to dating I'd have to say that my shyness is a bit of a handicap. When I'd like to approach a potential companion, it doesn't help too much to worry over every word that leaves my lips as well as every gesture, glance, and action. As far as outgoingness in a companion or significant other, I'd have to say that I would probably look for someone who is very similar to myself in that respect. Someone who is more than capable of carrying on a conversation with myself, but who also knows that silence can speak more than words in the right situations.

And I pass, as a shadow, down the road, thru the night. The hard packed dirt crunches softly under my footfalls, As songs of crickets and cicadas rise up to crescendo, And the Palemoon slips silently behind a cloud. The sound of a train in the distance pierces the dark, And the long lonesome highway whispers over the miles. I long to be there, for I am a wanderer, a walker, a man. And I pass, as a shadow, down the road, thru the night.
  4. So few lines; so much depth. As always you grace us with your words.
  5. The Harry Potter Books are written at a 7th grade reading level I believe. I have also read somewhere that the majority of Americans, (and I'm forced to assume this applies to many other English speaking countries) read at a 7th grade level.
  6. Ok now, I get it. The poem is beautiful. Also being a Michigander, I am well aware what UP is
  7. Great piece, though I'm confused about the title.
  8. There was somebody who received a cloak of that nature, though it wasn't Herakles. In Euripides' Medea, Medea gives Glauce, the daughter of Creon, ruler of Corinth, a poisoned cloak and crown that burst into flames killing her as well as her father, the king, when he tries to save her. As for my thoughts on love, as far as I'm concerned love is everything.
  9. I've always been a big fan of the saying "Love your country, fear your government." For me, patriotism comes in many shapes and sizes, and like many other beliefs, as long as its not taken too far, it's a healthy thing.
  10. I enjoyed this movie because, while it did have its fair share of mindless action, it tried to put some intellegence back into Sci-Fi.
  11. Sorry to resurrect long dead threads, but I couldn't resist. I picked the name Mira probably back in 1999. I found the name in a book called The Atlas of the Universe. Apparently Mira is a binary star in the constellation Cetus, and it was also the first non-supernova variable star ever discovered. Soon after discovering the name, I used it for an Evoker I created in AD&D. Then once a friend directed me to Archmage, the name became an obvious choice for my account as I was playing an Eradication Mage.
  12. That easier way would be clicking the "Members" button that’s in the header of every page.
  13. Sorrowfully beautiful. For me, the poem started with a somber statement and pulled me along thru your Grandads memories right up to his moment of realization. It reminds me of my Grandfather in many respects.
  14. I saw Ernist Goes to Jail, and I know that massive amounts of electricity can be absorbed by the body and expelled in controlled blasts that can be used to incapacitate crooked guards and homicidal inmates.
  15. Mira pops in on the party just briefly to give his regards to the Fair Feline Mynx and Falcon2001 for both being born on this day 19 years ago. "Hope your day was fine, and that the coming year is everything you hope it will be."
  16. Mira approached the mic for the second time more nervous then earlier. He was lucky enough to have made it this far; now all he hoped to do was make sure he didn't make a total fool of himself. "Ladies and gentlemen, before I begin, I'd like to ask you all to help me do one little thing that I feel was overlooked." Mira said with a smirk as a few confused looks rippled silently through the audience. "Drummondo, Gabriel (Katzaniel), you are both exceptional poets, who deserve to be up here more then I. However, it seems Lady Luck is with me tonight, I do hope there are no hard feelings. That said, I believe a round of applause is in order for this pair." Mira's smirk became a grin as the audience erupted in enthusiastic applause. When it was finished, he continued. "And so ladies and gentlemen, without further ado, I give to you my second poem of the night." Muse, take me away. Pull me beyond the bounds of this Earth. Throw me out amongst the stars. Allow my thoughts their birth. Without you my love, man is nothing more then animal, or at very best cold machine. Your breath feeds the flames of the heart. And drives man to create, to feel, to dream. Muse, your lips taste of honey. The air around you ever sweet. Your smile is the dawn. Your tears the rain. Your laughter heard in a summer night's heat. Every day I thank you for allowing me to dwell in your grace. And I forever savor every instant of your touch, your whispers, your face. With that Mira took a gracious bow, and vacated the stage.
  17. I suggest everone who is interested in such theories read Brian Greene's "The Elegant Universe". Its a great book that uses many clear examples to explain Quantum Mechanics, General and Special Relativity, and String Theory, as well as a whole slew of other crazy physics stuff.
  18. Mira watched the other Slam Poets with great interest. They were good, all of them, and he was going to have to be at his best if he even hoped to reach the second round of the Slam. Once Drummondo had finishe, he stood up, took a second to compose himself and to make sure his coat was strait, and approached the stage. When he reached the mic he graciously bowed to the judges and said, "Vlad, Ayshela, Mighty Judge Wyvmettic, and esteemed members of the audience. I have prepared a piece for you tonight, which I will read for you now. It is titled "Daedalus Son" From within his coat pocked he produced a piece of paper, cleared his throat, and began. With unchecked reckless force, he hit the clear blue water. The crisp coolness of the sea, sharply contrasted the heat of the sun. It solidified the wax. It took his breath away. He tried to swim; the ruined remains of wings squandered his efforts. Vainly he kicked and clawed at the water. The world seemed to swell; Whirl. He blinked, and everything was clear. How cruel of the gods, to grant him this moment of absolute realization, right before the end. Realization, which let him see that there could only be one prayer worth saying. Only one prayer that would give him escape. He surrendered. Opened his mouth; his throat. And for the second time in his sad short life, he was free. Once finished, Mira stood for a moment in silence before once again bowing to the judges and exiting the stage. On his way back to his seat though, he swung by the judge’s table. As he drew near a geld piece suddenly appeared in his hand. It rolled along Mira's fingers, catching the light, and more importantly the eye of one of the judges, whose mouth began to water at the sight of it. Once at the table, he dipped his hand into the jar once marked "Donations Bin for the Charity of Cute, Innocent Kittens". The clink of coin brought a grin to the Almost Dragon’s face, and it was not until later that he learned the sound was not of geld going into his jar, but rather, out.
  19. Mira entered the Carbaret Room in the middle of Loki's poem. Looks like I showed up just in time, he thought to himself. Spotting an empty seat in front of the stage, but at the extreame right, he maked his way toward it as quietly and swiftly as he could manage, and sat down to enjoy the rest of the Open Mic performers.
  20. Well I feel sheepish. I apologize if I actually ruined it for anyone.
  21. If the amount of matter in the universe was increasing, wouldn't we be able to detect its gravitational effects? Also, doesn't the fact that the universe is ever expanding mean that it is infinite? Just some things to think about.
  22. You forgot the part where she lived under a rock for the past 25 years.
  23. I know the thread said no spoilers, but I can't help myself. So anyway, you know that Anakin guy? Totally turns into Darth Vader. Also Salinye, when you said the actor playing Anakin redeemed himself I personally feel that it was never his fault in the first place. The real blame lies with the director and writers.
  24. Brief Description Mira is about 5'9" (1.75m) with brown eyes and brown hair, which reaches his shoulders. He looks like a handsome young man in his early twenties, though his grin is distinctively childish. He usually dresses in a plain wool coat that reaches to mid-thigh with a wide leather belt over it, as well as a pair of wool pants and a pair of sturdy leather boots that go up to mid-shin. It is also almost impossible to find him without his black, wide-brimmed, Flamenco hat. Mira is a gambler and a rogue, with a mouth that can get him both into and out of trouble. That said, he is also kind hearted, and when his aid is needed he gives it without question (though he might grumble about it later). When he is traveling he is able to survive by his wits and luck, which he tries to always use before violence.
  25. Had this QQ taken place a month earlier, I would be all for audio recordings of poems. But now that I have lost my access to a high-speed internet connection I'm afraid that if I can not successfully record and upload, I will not be able to participate. If all of the other Slam Poets agree to an audio format I will do my best to follow suite and if worse comes to worse, might have to just post my poems in the normal way.
