M'Lord Kendricke - Absolutely! Some are just rougher than others... And some shatter rather than accept society's polish. Frond Dances a bit, and decides he's pushed that analogy as far as he can for the nonce.

doctrine or practical applications? Random thoughts, I'm pressed for time. As a self-motivating tool, if you can achieve any impartiality at all: When depressed, compare yourself to your peers. You'll normally come off 'not so badly' or 'wow, I'm doing okay'. When feeling too egotistical, compare yourself to you - that which you know you COULD'VE done, or would be capable of doing - if only... Many Western cultures have distorted basic Christian values into socially oppressive weapons instead of the freedoms which they should be (Different topic), however, one of these distortions manifests in the bizarre idea that "I should be responsible for all my weaknesses and failures, but not for my strengths and successes." After, one wouldn't want to appear egotistical or bragging, hmm? As a direct consequence the average Westerner has been trained to focus (when viewing themself) only on the negatives and limitations. As you love yourself, you love others... So too many cast stones and tear down (just trying to be helpful, but...) instead of affirming or edifying (edify == to build up). "He's getting above himself" with the logical social implication of: "We need to tear him back down to our level" rather than, "We need to support him so he can guide or pull us up, once he's firmly established." Intelligent people tend to have serious ego boundary problems, often projecting their abilities and emotions onto others. The "If I can do it, it's easy, prolly everyone could if they just tried, and it is not worth much, but if I can't, then I can respect it" mentality. Another limitation of intelligence is that is has nothing to do with emotional reality, except to perceive and refine definitions of HOW one feels more acutely. Thus the highly intelligent can REALLY become depressed over feeling 'petty jealousy' for instance, not only feeling jealous, but knowing that they shouldn't feel jealous, too aware of the implications and reactions if they act on the jealousy, etc, etc - and they end up turning it all inward and becoming depressed and short-circuit defeated, or expressing it anyway - and feeling stupid/guilty. Intelligence isn't a feeling - it's a comparison of a facet of self to other's similiar facets. Feeling are an entirely different arena, mutable turbulent and energetic. Thought feeds into feeling, can provide the reins that control the steed of emotion, but the harness must be properly attached and you should figure out how to adjust the straps for comfort. Enough rambles I suppose The limitations one knows Can be based on shared reality Or generate internally If head rules heart tyrannically A sociopathic robot you'll be, But if emotions wear your crown Your life will be very up and down. Wow, an excellent social commentary in poetic form. You know, I think you captured the ugliness of what many all too sweet appearing people think late at night. Very very good. You came to the Pen long ago as the girlfriend of a member - but you've sure carved out your own place all on your own since! Keep them coming. Quote:Nyyark, Nov 2002 Why do people say Free Will when they mean Freedom from Consequences? I believe in Free Will, and the right to face the consequences. Just thought it related in a semi-random way...

YES! When just puffs of air, labial shaped vibrations, reach into hearts and minds and draw forth visions... That's when it's perfect. We do not write because we want to; we write because we have to. W. Somerset Maugham

This would make an excellent song.

Multi-talented and well done. When someone gives you a 'leg-up' on life, their greatest reward is to see you grow to stand on your own as an equal. But tributes are a feedback that is always wonderful! Hugs Welcome to the Mighty Pen site, M'dear. Hope you'll come back frequently. -Peredhil We do not write because we want to; we write because we have to. W. Somerset Maugham

Peredhil falls over laughing, his shadow (Frond), leaps about Dancing in mirth. Ah yes... Trying to Role Playing in Norrath frustrates both tribes to no end. Beautifully captured the tone and essence of the exchange. We do not write because we want to; we write because we have to. W. Somerset Maugham

Imagery! Zadown's poetry like always Seizes my throat like a fist Impacting hearts. "Why is it people want to define Free Will as Freedom from Consquences instead of Freedom to Choose?" - Nyyark

He wasn't sure how long it had been. The world was much bigger than he'd ever imagined. After a few days of walking on air, he'd wondered why Uncle Mordecai didn't fear the night. Or the voices. Or anything as far as he could see. He wondered what it was like to live without fear. He wondered how Mordecai was hunting. Every few days, they'd find a dead animal. Freshly killed with no wounds. A rabbit, a shrew, a squirrel, once even a deer. It was more meat than he'd ever eaten in his life. He began to listen to the Voices carefully, trying to understand their constant murmur to Uncle Mordecai.

In a Different Terra, A historical Sixties event reviewed
Peredhil replied to Peredhil's topic in Assembly Room Archives
An Indian chief was feeling very sick, so he summoned the medicine man to his teepee. A brief but intense examination ensued, following which the medicine man cut off a thong of elk hide from his belt and gave it to the chief, instructing him to bite off, chew and swallow 1" of leather every day. After one month, the medicine man returned to see how the chief was feeling. The chief answered, "The thong is ended, but the malady lingers on." -
the Ladies exchange their healthy greens for each tattered decaying ballroom gown which look pretty until the breezes blow and bring them tumbling down. The stench of mold, death, and decay send fetid odors into air the dying of the seasonal sun brings shivers and the mood dispair. 'Tis the season for all to hibernate 'though snow bunnies stick around and annoying people scream and shout kicking ballroom leaves around.

I would write Haiku But I find myself present In Masters' Shadows. "A man's judgment is best when he can forget himself and any reputation he may have acquired and can concentrate wholly on making the right decisions." -ADM Raymond A. Spruance

Back in the days when I was Elder of Lists, I thought of the Weenie Awards as a light hearted way to find out who was active and who wasn't. It was a Role-Call, because so many of us enjoy role-playing. It was held for a month, so those with jobs, school, lives, or all of the above could have a chance to check in, and at least make a one line contribution. Since we all are here for the expressed purpose of writing and growing, it wasn't thought to be overwhelming. To get rid of the Weenie Award, all that had to be done is to make an original post with the word "Weenie" in the title, again, not to be considered a huge burden in such a friendly place as this. We have few rules and traditions here, but manners and being Polite are really one of them. Even my dearest enemy, Doctor Evil, is Rude with great class. For the record, I retired, becoming an Ancient, for lack of time. And I STILL found time to give back to the guild, in the form of a short post in the Role-Call. Oh, and I'm a he. The She to which you refer, one of the unappreciated Elders in this place, one of those who do the day to day maintenance around her, also has a life. And she still manages to not only post, but do maintain the Lists. Are you here to grow? To help others to grow? To help nurture a frightened young writer with raw talent who is afraid they suck? Not everyone has great creativity and a strong ego. The Pen is for every for everyone to grow safely, not just for a few to show how brilliant they are for the rest. Or so I thought in my day... His hands once shaped The beauty of her face, His fingers once played The melody of her sighs, Shuddered intaken breaths, (Soft whispers cries), But the ashes of their joy Rebuke the memories of the past, A poignant reminder that Joys aren't meant to last - So hold onto the present And enjoy e'er waking thought, For present delerious happiness Is often dearly bought. Heh, I allow people their person beliefs, or non-beliefs, whether I agree with them or not. I just found out that a dear friend of mine, my 'second father', died of cancer. Came back to reread your poem. But really, it's impossible to effectively argue religion. If you believe in the Bible, it pretty much tells you not to argue it, in the form of such pithy sayings as: "The fool has said in his heart, there is no God" and "The natural man cannot understand the things of the Spirit." Given that, it's like arguing about shades of red and brown with someone who's colorblind. Unnecessary and cruel. Shrugs. Personally, I'm somewhat Gnostic - I leave judgement to God and that frees me to love people as they are. It's so much easier to be Polite that way... Huggles -Peredhil

Peredhil hugs the errant Andrea. Welcome back. you were missed indeed. Only you look at the world, and write about it from your perspective. In a Guild of writing, every voice is missed when it falls silent. Besides... I like your works. Usually fresh, honest and from the heart. Peredhil

it was in the Days of the Great Daily Dialogue we had going, when we both had more time. Sighs in fond memory of better letter-writing days

Peredhil and Zool sat in the Ancients Balcony. Zool was propped on a tripod easel, while Peredhil lounged comfortably in an overstuffed chair. In fact, for anyone who'd ever watched the Muppet Show, the decor seemed strangely familiar... Heh, Peredhil snorted, Sounds like that NEW Elder of Lists has carbon copy problems! Wasn't like that back in MY Day. Your Day? Chortled Zool in reply, Good Night! Your Day we had REAL Elders! They were so Elder, they'd forgotten how to write! Dumb as a post when they posted. They look at each other and chuckle, finishing the sentence. WE were those Elders!!! Heh, heh, heh... Yup, yup, they mutter together, Things aren't what they used to be. Active Elders, trying to do their jobs. If you try, you're bound to screw up sometimes. And we'll be here to help you straighten it out! Heh... heh... heh... Leaning forward, they prepare to provide advice to the Pen's current Stage of Life...
