(conversion confusion, this is actually the first post in this thread)

The Conversation

HOMO SAPIENS:

Australopithecus robustus!

The famous protohuman brute!

How is your life?

What's it like being

Thoughless, emotionless and mute?

AUSTRALOPITHECUS ROBUSTUS:

"Australopithecus" - what denigration!

"An evolutionary aberration"

Pretend you are special!

Pretend you are new!

But we, we're just as human as you.

H.: But what of encephalization?

Our brains - the finest in the land.

They house all

Our thoughts and feelings

Don't judge what you can't understand.

A.: We've been around for millions of years

We silenced our laughter, and swallowed our tears

Your brins may be bigger

But from my point of view

We're not any less human than you.

H.: But what of our communication?

We have our tongues at our command

Language is that

Which makes us Human.

Don't judge what you can't understand.

A.: You don't listen to us and we do not speak.

But we fear what you fear and seek what you seek.

You think we've no conscience

But if you only knew

You would see we are as human as you.

H.: But what of our civilization?

Look at the world we've wrought by hand

These are the things

That make us Human.

Don't judge what you can't understand.

A.: You drive a Suburban, you shower and shave

But your gun is a hand-axe, your highrise - a cave.

Our technology is basic

Inventions are few

That doesn't make us less human than you.

Armageddon

In a hurry for the meeting

Waiting for the bus

Time is precious...

Time is fleeting...

Time is fleeing us.

Three attempts at translating the Viper couplet from Boris Zahoder's "Animal Couplets."

1.

It's been a long time since I've met a viper

Can't really say that I have missed them, either.

2.

I haven't met a viper, in many many years

I must admit the time apart hasn't cost me any tears.

3.

I hadn't seen a viper, I began to ponder

But absence doesn't always make the heart grow fonder
