  1. English abbreviations and titles strike again... if I figure out what it needs to be changed into (or you let me know) I'll do so right away!
  2. I'd had hangovers before, plenty of them, but this one seemed to be the Lord of them all, my apologies for the pun. Maybe it was because I couldn't drink it away immediately - without bothering to open my aching eyes I felt around for a bottle but, to my surprise, found none. Passing out in the liquor store hadn't been an alcohol-induced hallucination, had it? When finally I managed to tear my eyes open the world was a blur, and for a few moments I couldn't concentrate on anything but the feeling that my eyeballs would leave their sockets any moment now. When that failed to happen and the throbbing got a little less I could finally concentrate on the blur around me. Something wasn't right - this room was unlike anything I'd ever seen before. In fact, "room" doesn't quite describe it ... void might be more appropriate. There didn't seem to be anything around me but vague, blurry specks of light in the distance, infinitely far away, not even a floor. Yet I had no sensation of falling. And just as I got used to it, I noticed them. They were ... were they? They couldn't be! Years of preaching for a declining audience and alcohol-use had made me believe that this earth was all there was - one life and that's it, time up, done. Real angels! Right here before me, looking at me! "Am I dead?" "No, you are one of those who survived." "But why? Why me?" An answer didn't come immediately. Maybe it came after a little while, but my mind decided it had enough to think about. Merciful blackness.
  3. This concludes the first day phase. Since Patrick said that he'd be unable to post until Friday (and suggested using his character as an NPC until then), I think it's best to have him as an NPC in this game. Patrick, you're still welcome to roleplay though! The same thing goes for Dragonqueen : since I won't have real deaths in this game (I'm assuming that life is too precious in a Vault to waste) you're more than welcome to roleplay Irene in her room, or any other NPC you can think of. Current player status : Player Character Katzaniel Cook Sweetcherrie DJ Mynx Mary Tanuchan Kyraine Morgan MeThinksUFoolish Chuck (Samuel Barnes) Patrick Durham John Doe (gone NPC) Ozymandias the Elder Richard Braggins dragonqueen Irene Taylor (locked up - first lynchee) Quincunx Billie Jo Pike Akallabeth Irwin Ayshela Melinda Also, for people having a problem with IC suspicions, that's no excuse Just make an IC post and add an OOC line with a (for all I care completely random) accusation
  4. Somehow the rumour spread and before long the people at Security heard it too. Robert McDullough was among those who heard it and he still had a mistake to make up for. A few months ago he hadn't acted quickly enough and because of that a few people ended up in the medical bay. It had been an accident back then, a steel beam that had come undone, and it had been secured afterwards, but he'd still taken a lot of heat for it. He was not going to make the same mistake again. By the time the rumour reached his ears there were at least 23 witnesses who had seen Irene leave Lenny's room right before he was found dead, never mind the fact that mostly everyone had already been in their rooms by then. Five minutes later, Robert showed up at Irene's door, escorted by two Security guys. “Ms Taylor?” “Yes?” “You are hereby accused of murder. We will lock the door to your room. You will be brought food at regular times until we figure out what to do with you.” “But I ... are you saying ... Lenny?” “I'm afraid so ms Taylor. Now please retreat into your room.” Still unable to believe it, Irene took a step backwards, feeling as though this was nothing but a bad dream, and watched as the door closed before her. OOC : Due to a storm, a good book, dinner, and RL in general the first day phase has been extended until this post. As of now, it is night phase. You have 24 hours to roleplay (and the Special Roles to send me pm's), but no accusations or speculations!
  5. Yes, indeed. As soon as I get a message from Cupid telling me who the Lovers are, I will personally let them know. Aside from the Wolves, they are the only two who can PM each other. Indeed, you are right again. Depending on how good the Lover-Wolf is, his or her packmate might of course get suspicious after a while This time you're not completely right. Cupid does only get one opportunity to choose 2 Lovers, but the role doesn't end there. Cupid is the only one who knows who the Lovers are, so he / she might get to play an important role in influencing votes, if they all live long enough. I'd hate to be Cupid when he / she is wondering whether one of the Lovers is also a wolf - could he / she influence the votes enough to kill two people at once and thus get rid of the last remaining wolf? And correct again. That's the only time you'll figure out that a special role has died. This should keep the tension in
  6. But nonetheless really happy at seeing so much interest I will mostly try to stick with a "first-come, first-serve" order, although if I get inspired for someone then "first-come first-serve" will be forgotten in the blink of an eye As for what all of you will be doing : it starts with an exercise in patience (until I get to you) , followed by a separate roleplayed post for everyone. I'll write your post together with you (because it'll include both your character and Achib). After (and probably during) that, there will be questions from me about your character, so I can write up what your book is about. After that it's up to you : if you wish to write something based on your book that would be great, if you don't want to I'll just assume that you're happy with it and took it to your quarters (miiine, my oownn, my ... prrrrreciousss) Edit : in an attempt to make it less confusing.
  7. Michelle sighed. Lenny was once again playing that old record of his and had turned up the volume all the way in spite of her asking several times not to do that. The song wasn't bad, but if you had to listen to it every single day it did become a little boring. There was that, and she had a headache. She wanted to sleep, not listen to a song from before the war! Maybe you'll think of me when you are all alone Maybe the one who is waiting for you Will prove untrue, then what will you do? With a sigh, she turned around, hoping that if she ignored it she'd fall asleep. Maybe you'll sit and sigh Wishing that I were there Then mayb... mayb... mayb... mayb... mayb... mayb... Not again! The old grammophone hung every time it came to that spot! Pulling the pillow over her head, she wondered angrily when he was going to fix it, or stop using it, or do whatever would make this go away! mayb... mayb... mayb... mayb... mayb... mayb... mayb... mayb... mayb... mayb... This was wrong ... Lenny loved that song as much as he did his grammophone, he'd never let it continue this long! With a sigh, Michelle got out of bed and slipped into her clothes. The door slid open as smoothly as always when she left her room, and so did that of Lenny's room. She didn't enter, though, instead she just stared, unable to scream or move. When she did scream, almost everyone in the vault heard it and came running. Those who looked into Lenny's room saw the man lying on his bed, his glazed eyes staring surprisedly at the ceiling and his mouth still open in a scream that had been cut off before it could even begin to escape. Furthermore, somebody had used Lenny's blood to scrawl something on the wall. Open the door. OOC : It's now day phase. You have 48 hours to lynch someone
  8. Unless my calendar is off (which wouldn't surprise me at all) it's Monday, so I'm going to shed my lazyness and start doing something around here I'll be handing out the roles in a few moments, and after that post the first NPC death. As of then, you'll have 48 hours to do gossip, roleplay and voting. Good luck! A few more notes : If the specials don't pm me, aside from them being whipped, poked or maybe tickled, it's a missed chance for them. The Seer will not See if he / she doesn't pm me, the Wolves do not kill if I don't get a pm from them. Just for clarity, this is the only time I'm going to announce what special roles there are : 2 wolves 1 seer 1 cupid Cupid has until Night to pm me who the Lovers are. If that doesn't happen, I will roll dice and do it myself If one of the Lovers happens to have a special role, this may absolutely not be revealed to the other Lover! Once again, the Lovers may not vote against each other, not even to confuse other players. If the Lovers happen to be Wolf / Villager, I think it ought to be quite obvious that the Wolf-half does not harm his / her Lover. If one of the Lovers dies, through Lynching, Wolf-kill, or any other unforeseen reason ( ), the other one dies as well. I think that's it.
  9. Lenny shuffled through the corridors of the Vault, scratching himself where he pretended the suit itched. He didn't like the suits. He didn't like the Vault. His parents had told him so many stories from before the War and he'd loved every single one of them. He sighed. If only we could go back to that time ... But it was no use ... instead, he clung to the pre-war souvenirs his parents had left him when they died, and kept hoping that maybe one day, everything would be all right again. Maybe he could even marry Michelle then - she was a nice woman, and sometimes she even seemed to care about him. But now, no. Not in the Vault. It would have to be special, not the sylized stuff they did here. With another sigh, he shuffeled on.
  10. I will indeed be handing out the roles on Monday, so there's still time ... and as you can see, Ayshela and Akallabeth, your spots have been reserved Great roleplaying so far! I'm really enjoying reading the game-thread Player Character Katzaniel Cook Sweetcherrie DJ Mynx Mary Tanuchan Kyraine Morgan MeThinksUFoolish Chuck (Samuel Barnes) Patrick Durham John Doe (gone NPC) Ozymandias the Elder Richard Braggins dragonqueen Irene Taylor Quincunx Billie Jo Pike Akallabeth Irwin Ayshela Melinda Edit : Lookit me! I can do tables I decided I'd introduce you to one of the NPC's as well ... gotta run now!
  11. Venefyxatu enters the Cabaret room carrying a scroll and, with a quick look around the room, walks over to the notice board. He finds an empty spot and attaches the scroll, wondering whether this is a good idea. After all, he hardly knows Achib, but the man had seemed so enthusiastic that he couldn't refuse the favour. OOC : Yes, it's my Quill Quest! Thanks to ideas coming from two good friends (who will get their moment in the spotlight later – *evil grin* ) and maybe because of the heat melting my brain I'm going to do it. The idea is as follows : Pennites who sign up will get a chance to buy one of Achib's books. This will happen in a roleplay-style-ish post that will be written as a collaboration between me and the Pennite. When you have your book, I will describe the story through means of its short contents. And this is where the fun starts : I told you they were magical books, and that they're being sold by Achib. This means that each book will have an ... interesting quality. There are three variants : The book might suit you perfectly (favourite genre, places / events you love, ...) The book absolutely does not suit you (most hated genre, places / events you fear or hate, ...) The book draws you into one of its characters (a character you either love or hate), thus forcing you to view part of the story from this character's perspective until you are released. These books will be existing (in the Real World) and rather well-known books. (note : when I said “you”, I meant “your character” )What kind you get will depend on coincidence, inspiration, and the colour of the socks my neighbour will wear three weeks after your book has been written. If you, as a writer or roleplayer, feel inspired, you're more than welcome to continue on this : either return the book, pass it on to a friend (*evil chuckle*), review it, ... This way you can make up your own details as well, if you want to do so. If you don't want to / don't have time / ... you are by no means forced to do so. I'm going to try and put at least one reference to an existing book / movie / game in every book, which will hopefully make for some fun guessing at the end. Oh, and of course, by signing up you agree to the fact that I may bug you with questions about your character so I can tailor your book to match (or not match ... ) your character. I promise I'll behave! *grin* I'm going to be careful and limit initial sign-ups to 12 people. If I didn't make sense, please feel free to ask any questions you may have, either here, through pm's, messengers, ...
  12. OOC : And off it goes! Have fun! ~~~ IC : It hovers, twists and turns, and its shape is constantly changing. In this cold, damp cave it feels at home, undisturbed by light or humans, fed by the numerous small creatures that keep wandering in. It has lived like this for many years, but all that is about to change.
  13. The person who claims Venefyxatu as his identity on the internet does his very best not to laugh out loud and wake everyone when reading this, and thanks to some practise succeeds (fortunately). That was great! Edit : *notices the post dates* Why didn't I see this before?
  14. War. War never changes. The Romans waged war to gather slaves and wealth . Spain built an empire from its lust for gold and territory. Hitler shaped a battered Germany into an economic superpower. But war never changes. In the 21st century war was still waged over the resources that could be acquired. Only this time, the spoils of war were also its weapons : petroleum and uranium. For these resources China would invade Alaska, the US would annex Canada, and the European Commonwealth would dissolve into quarreling, bickering nation-states bent on controlling the last remaining resources on earth. In 2077 the storm of world war had come again. In 2 brief hours most of the planet was reduced to cinders. And from the ashes of nuclear devastation a new civilisation would struggle to arise. A few were able to reach the relative safety of the large underground vaults. Your family was part of that group that entered vault 22. Imprisoned safely behind the large vault door, under a mountain of stone, a generation has lived without knowledge of the outside world. Life in the vault is about to change. Screenshots taken from the intro movies of the Fallout games. Text taken from the intro movie of Fallout 1. OOC thread is here.
  15. Great to see people signing up with interesting characters I just thought of something I forgot to mention (and which is not really important to the game but might be fun for you to know). In the Vaults, most people usually wear a kind of "Vaultsuit". They're blue overalls with in big yellow numbers the number of the vault on it (22 in your case). I believe they're pretty comfortable, but of course they all look the same ... While you're all waiting for the real game to begin, this is the Vault the game will take place in. (screenshot taken from the introduction movie of Fallout 1). As promised, and slightly overdue, I'll open up the IC thread so you can start roleplaying your characters if you feel like it. The first NPC death won't occur until sometime late (for me at least : GMT + 2) on Monday.
  16. My head was hurting every morning back then, but it didn't really matter. I usually had a bottle next to my bed, and as soon as I started drinking the headache would go away. I was drinking almost constantly, and I'm sure most of my flock knew it, even though I still managed to give my sermons. Not that it mattered much, though - as the weeks went by I had less and less people showing up every time, until eventually I was the only one there. I didn't even care - all that meant to me was that I didn't have to pretend I was sober anymore so I started drinking even more. Maybe the alcohol helped my body build up a resistance against the gas they used. Maybe they skipped me because they wanted me to continue being miserable. I didn't know. I didn't care. I had my bottles. At first I went back home with a new supply of bottles every time, but after a few days I moved to the liquor store. I'd always enjoyed the smell of that place, and the fact that the stench of death was hardly perceptible there only added to that. I didn't want to be reminded of the others in the town, didn't want to imagine how they died. When they came back, I was so drunk I didn't even notice. Somewhere far off a dog was barking, but it hardly registered. When the door to the store was opened, I took a last swig and passed out. Merciful blackness.
  17. Oh yes, definitely lighting. You see, the chance of getting superpowers from being hit by a car is what ... 0%? And even if you'd get them, what would you have? The power to bend your arm backwards? To turn your head 360 degrees? "I'm owlman! I can watch you if you try to stick a knife (or a fork, or any other eating utensil for that matter) in my back!" Heheheheheh. No, lightning is the way to go! I mean, there are like, totally a gazillion cool superpowers you could end up with! Being able to teleport? Move as quickly as lightning? Spark people to death or just shock them slightly, either when shaking their hand or from a distance? (think of the fun you could have at family gatherings ) A combination? Whoohoo! When's the next thunderstorm!?
  18. “War. War never changes.” These words introduced one of my favourite computer RPG's ever, and will introduce the next WereWolf game as well. Interplay's Fallout is set in the western part of the USA after the third World War has destroyed the earth. This war was the first and last one in which nuclear weapons were used on a large scale : most of the planet has been reduced to desert, most of humanity has been wiped out. Fortunately, thanks to Vault-Tec, large underground vaults had been constructed for those who were wealthy or important enough to seek shelter just in case of such a war. Those who made it were safe : the vault doors were sealed shut and would not open until the Overseer determined that the earth was safe again. With the advanced technology that Vault-Tec built into the vaults, the vault dwellers led rather luxurious lives : they could enjoy comfort, food, fresh water, holodiscs, ... All this in a '50's style future under the leadership of the Overseer. I would ask that none of you play him! In this game, you'll play one of the vault dwellers (I might mod another WW game set in the wastelands later, but let's not go there yet). You are playing the second generation to live in the vault (most of the original vault dwellers have died already but don't let this stop you if you have a great idea for a character of that generation!) and have a wide choice of personnel (technicians, doctors, security, cooks, cleaning staff, ...) or regular inhabitants to choose from. Some of you believe that it would be a good idea to return to the surface, and finally start living life anew, start rebuilding the world, but the Overseer is reluctant. He thinks that one generation is not enough for the nuclear fallout to dissipate and refuses to give permission for the vault door to be opened. So there are a few who have decided to convince him with rather drastic means ... Now, for some rules. Except for the wolves (and if they are included, the Lovers) there will be no PM alliances, although PMing for roleplaying is fine (please send me a copy of PMs as well). If you vote for someone, please add a line to the end of your IC post including both player and character name of the person you vote for. Also, if you're changing your vote, indicate so clearly. I am easily confused Time schedule : day phase will last 48 hours, night phase 24 hours. The “specials” act during the night, voting will happen during the day. Phases may be extended somewhat if your oh-so-dearly beloved mod ( i.e. me ) can't make it on time, but will never be shortened. I will post the IC opening post sometime tomorrow, so you can start roleplaying if you like. With the weekend said to be an inactive period, the actual game will start on Monday. This should give people plenty of time to sign up and get used to their characters. Don't you love having your character die just when you get attached to it? One more thing : depending on the amount of players I'm going to shuffle a bit with the special roles, using the following scheme : 7-9 players = 2 wolves + seer + witch 10-12 players = 2 wolves + seer + cupid 13-15 players = 2 wolves, seer, baner, cupid 15+ players = 3 wolves, seer, baner, cupid In no case shall the roles be revealed during the game : if someone dies, you won't know what their role was. This is done both for balancing reasons and to maximise the role of a Cupid. I also hope this will encourage some serious pleading to influence votes For those who missed it in the Q&A thread : Cupid : before the first night, this player chooses two other players (the Lovers) who are inseparable (madly in love, close relatives, any reason you can think of). When one of them dies (through lynching / werewolf / other reasons), the other one dies as well. They may not vote against each other, not even to mislead the other players. If they are a wolf and a villager, they must cooperate to get rid of all the other villagers so they can live together in peace. Cupid may indicate him / herself as one of the two. Good luck trying to roleplay this without tipping off the wolves Witch : (s)he can brew potions of restoration and poisons. The witch has the power to revive one dead character, and to poison one living character in addition to the kills of the wolves. (S)he can use the potion / poison on him or herself. The Witch will be allowed to use one potion and one poison in the game. I hope I didn't forget anything? Edit : NPC's are welcome as well - even if you're participating as a character Game-thread is located here.
  19. Wyvern, that was great ... I never would've expected a test like this to describe someone so perfectly Whoohoo! Off to write I go!
  20. That was fast Let's call it short but good ... the characters were definitely extremely interesting! Oh, and the first-person perspective was quite interesting as well.
  21. I wouldn't mind seeing it moved either. And while we're "voting" on something anyway, let me be the first to start pointing an accusing finger, too. I don't have a reason for this accusation other than "The Random Numbers Have Declared It So", but you have to start somewhere ... Vote for Thomas McKinston / Patrick Durham.
  22. Regret, that's a good one. Why should I regret anything? Although, I guess if that's what they want to hear, then fine by me, I'll give them such a show of regret they'll all be wondering whether it's real or bad acting. That ought to be interesting to watch. Funny how they're all staring at Tabatha, now ... she's not going to answer and I've got the idea she could outstare a cat. Heh, and Brenda seems interested in me today ... with a slight wink towards her I get up when it's my turn, the main idea of my speech firmly in my mind. "Regret, yes ... there are so many things to regret." Dramatic pause ... and then resume right when the doctor starts speaking. "..." "I mean, I could've done so many other, constructive things with my life, and those others as well. Yes ..." A slight sigh here ... whoa, don't overdo it D! At least not too much. Aaand she's about to start speaking ... now. "..." "If only they hadn't all killed themselves." So that's what a human imitating a fish looks like .. mouth open close open close ... heheheh. "There's so much gone to waste there ... it's sad." Now sit down again with a sigh and a shake of my head ... good way to conceal a half-grin in Audrey's direction and a slight leap of my eyebrows towards Jason. Oops, better hurry if I want to interrupt her again. "..." "Hey doc, at least with Jeremy gone that's one less of us to worry about for you, isn't it?" Right ... better stop it now.
  23. Heh ... it shouldn't be too hard to get the women to cooperate ... especially the rude one. Nice remark to that guard, there ... a few more cracks like that and he'll be going outside to cry. "And she kind of understated it, too ... don't you think? Or are you going to be part of the Monster Crew in here?" I return the grin she flashed me - one point for me. It was a bit of a toothy grin, though ... she should have a Handle With Care sticker on her. Hmm, a child ... strange. I wonder what she's here for. She could be a great asset, too, if handled the right way. She seems a bit too quiet for a child, though, she might be the hardest one to get on my side. Funny. No reaction to a friendly smile ... or to anyone else's stares for that matter. That's one precious child, she's tougher than the rest of us together, brilliant! An interview with dr. Tuttle? Eexcellent ... I wonder what he'll be like. Yes, this is definitely going to be an interesting stay. I might not leave after all, just for the fun of it. Maybe that's what they're aiming for? I chuckle, and that seems to draw the attention of some of the others. "What's so funny?" "Everything ... don't you see it? A bunch of criminals, gathered nicely under the care of Frankenstein's Monster and his crew."
  24. Can't post, gotta run, if the internet isn't blocked in school I'll post from there later today. *rushes off* Edit : One exam down, one to go for today. I love it when they go smoothly
  25. Darkness, but no ordinary darkness. This darkness was alive and it had living things inside it. It hid them from his eyes, because the sight of these creatures would be too horrible for his mind, but he knew they were there. He could sense them as he knew they could sense him. He could almost feel their slow movement, almost hear the terrible noises they were making even though there was no sound. Yet they left him alone for he was in the favour of Netkal, at least for now. The darkness opened a bit to reveal a woman's face. It was a beautiful face, with grey eyes that looked just short of sad, framed by brown hair and with a very small birthmark next to the lips. The darkness opened to reveal something more; the woman was looking at ... darkness. It was a different kind of darkness than the one surrounding him, though. The darkness she was looking at looked ... more alive, somehow. When she bowed, the hem of her skirt moved slightly to reveal a serpent's tail. Then the darkness closed again and he was alone, alone except for the creatures that were always present here. Caleb simply woke up and opened his eyes. It was quite obvious what the vision meant ... maybe a little too obvious. He'd have to be careful interpreting it - he didn't want to make a mistake if there was a prophet of Netkal involved. There was no doubt that she was that, a prophet. The question was : what was she up to? He'd have to think about that later ... Jasmin was coming soon.
