  5. Gah...I'm sorry I've taken so long to get this up and running... The game will hopefully start this weekend...although some of you still owe me characters... Here's the current list of players: Panther - Freedrick of the Manni - Twin: Samual, alive Tanny - Taleena Clearwater - Twin: Taleah, dead Finnius - Luke Carpenter - Twin: Duke, alive Savage Dragon - Johnny Drumwoode - Twin: James, dead Mithrandin - Zeldon Clearwater - Twin: Zelda, dead Ozy - Tam Cardeen - Twin: Shelly, dead? Patrick - Joshua Oldwind - Twin: Tania, dead Gryphon - Travis Reid - Twin: Terry, alive Phoenix - Sialla Reblen - Twin: Sial, alive Mardrax - Bill Marsh - Twin: Henry, dead And now for a little more development on the story...(The following excerpt takes place before Callahan finds the ka-tet) Andy is yet another character I will be using to try and weave this story, as well as Roland and his ka-tet. I will try not to spoil too much of the story for those of you who have yet to read the books but have intention to, so I will be trying to use these characters in close relation to as they are used in the book, but there may be cause for deviations...we shall see I suppose...
  6. As a child I used to read the Goosebumps series religously...until they got high enough in number that R.L Stine stopped thinking of new stories and just started writing sequels to previous ones... I do remember though re-reading them so many times, and continuing to get them even when I could predict the story within the first chapter. Then I found K.A Applegate's Animorphs series. I loved those with a rabid passion. Only reason I stopped reading them was the bookshops in NZ stopped stocking them a few books before the series ended, and the TV series they created overrided my squick factor. But that was years ago. These days, if I like a book I will re-read it, but if I hate it I will scream at the book until I finish it (I don't know why, I always finish them). Recently (as in about last year), I came across author Richard Laymond in the form of a book of short stories. The first story was fantastic. The rest....dear gods this man has a twisted obsession. Every story in the book involved girls getting into trouble, and often having to do something sexual to get free. It was just so, so weird. And so, so wrong. Thinking that maybe it was just a themed book or something, I bought a couple more of his books - actual novels this time. Not only were the same threads prevailant, but gods the spelling errors in this book! It's like the man who had no editor! And yet...I still read his books. I haven't re-read any yet, but I've gone through about 5 of his novels now. Maybe it's just cos they are so dumb and mindlessly violent that it's like a B horror film in written form. The amusing thing about this was that I discovered - much to my mortification - that after I'd moved out of home my dad found the book of short stories and, seeing as we have similar tastes in books, read it. I could tell when I spoke to him that he was worried I had a rape fetish or something. This summer, I found him reading another of the guy's books. When I asked why, he said "I don't know. It's like a twisted train wreck really." It's so true. I still buy this guy's work and read them and cringe at the bad writing (magic beans that make you invisible?! Rape victim trusting a total stranger mere hours after her assault?? Oh! I know! Let's kidnap tourists and tie them to trees for our pet in-bred cannibals!)... But I still read them...
  7. Sadly I have no knight to perform your slaying duties, as I have my own writers' block. But there are some tricks I have found to get little works out... Watch/read/listen to something you're not used to experiencing. The change might inspire something, be it an expression of newfound love of opera music or a tirade on the idiocy of the latest book you picked up. Or try experiencing something you know, but in a difference surrounding. I watched a music video the other day to a song I'd heard many many times and the resulting imagry managed to knock some prose loose. I find it's useful to always keep a notebook and pen handy. I get the strangest thoughts while in classes or at work...
  8. Just a small random piece of trivia... The Departed is remade from the Hong Kong film Infernal Affairs
  9. Mynx's ears flattened briefly at the change of accent coming from Cryptomancer, before she snorted and allowed a small smile to creep across her face. "Do you want to tell him that charming smiles don't work on the blind? Or shall I?" Crypt blinked. "But if you couldn't see it how did you know it was there?" "Could hear it in his voice," the feline replied, before flinching at the orc drool. "You do realise," she continued to her friend, "that if he harms any of my wards I will hold you personally responsible?" "Why me?" Cryptomancer pleaded, recognising the tone in his friend's voice. It was not a friendly tone. "Why not?" Mynx flashed a toothy grin at her friend, before collapsing wearily into a chair and conjuring a coffee. As she sipped her drink, the feline made a mental note of Norman's scent and aura. He would be an interesting one to watch...
  10. Mynx frowned in a mixture of confusion and annoyance at the small creature before her. "Blonde?" She asked. "Party?" Behind Norman, one of the kitten minions hopped up on the table, sniffed at him, and jumped back down. Forming a small huddle with the other two minions, the kittens appeared to confer, before one of them scampered off out of the Cabaret Room. "Crypt..." Mynx fixed her friend with a puzzled expression. "Does this have anything to do with your date with CheerMynx?" As she waited for a reply, the kitten minion returned with about a dozen more of its kind. Mewling adorably, the kittens took up residence on and around the chair and table, ears pricked as they watched the miniature orc with interest. The image was reminiscent of pets waiting to be given their dinner. Crypt stared at the kittens, willing them to come up with a suitable distraction for him. When they failed to do anything, the RuneMage cleared his throat nervously...only to be saved from explaining by the very orc in question. Taking advantage of the distracted company (and the increased number of kittens), Norman had reached out for one and picked it up by the scruff of the neck. It stared at him calmly, before scratching him in the face and leaping away. "Why you little..." Norman leapt off the table to chase after the kitten...and ran into the base of Mynx's scythe. Rubbing his nose, the orc looked up at Mynx to find her glaring at him. "Don't..." the feline threatened.
  11. Stifling a yawn, Mynx wandered tiredly through the Cabaret Room, a trio of kitten minions following close at her heels as she allowed her remaining senses to pick up the new sounds and scents of new arrivals to the Pen. Ears pricking as she recognised the aura of Cryptomancer, Mynx stopped her aimless movements and headed towards the RuneMage's table to say hi. The greeting was already half formed on the feline's tongue when her nose picked up the new - and decidedly unappealing - scent around her friend. Purely out of habit, Mynx blinked. "Why do you smell of orc?" she blurted out. Before Crypt even had time to respond, a voice piped up behind her. "'Ere! Don't I know you?"
  12. Just wanted to say Savage that for someone who hasn't read the books, this is a fine character
  13. Yay! Characters! Just a quick note for those of you who haven't read the book - the Oriza is a kind of a metal dish with a sharpened edge. It is a weapon used by some women of the Calla and, until Roland and his ka-tet came to the town, was kept relatively secret from the men of the town. I'll try find something about it to post during the game...
  14. The ka-tet sat around the fire, contemplating their next move towards the Rose and the Tower, when the stranger emerged from the bushes to speak with them… So begins the signup for this game. And this time, rules will be somewhat stricter. Those of you who have read the Dark Tower series will recognise and know of the story, those of you who don't will manage fine I am sure. You will be restricted to playing only Calla-folken in early to mid adulthood. Think peasants and farmers, although there are some who make more than pittance with their work. You can be married with children, or not, but you will have a twin. This twin will either be dead and just a memory, or alive but 'Ruint' - in blunter terms, mentally retarded. It is what was done to your twin that causes you to seek out Roland and his group, for you wish to prevent it from happening to your own children. For if you have children, you will have twins, as twins are the common in the Calla. The wolves come, once a generation, and steal one child of each set. The child is returned ruint, and rarely lives beyond its mid twenties. The wolves of this tale will not be the werewolves of my game. They will be those who call the wolves and betray their town. But that will be explained after signup. I think I've explained all I have to for now. Please PM me or post questions here if you need anything cleared up. Signup will continue until I feel we have enough... So...yeah... Come-come-commala Rice come a-falla Commala-come-come Sign-up has begun
  15. Have you ever... ... ... Thought of a dozen things to post in here but forgotten them as soon as you opened the reply window? *shakes head and goes in search of brain*
  16. Panting slightly from the summer heat, Mynx wandered into the area, 'looked' around, and wandered out again. Moments later, the feline returned with what looked to be a rather ornate garden fountain. Setting it up on a small table out of the way, Mynx muttered a charm over the fountain and set up a tray of mugs next to it, along with a note. This fountain will flow with any liquid of your choice, be it hot or cold. Simply announce clearly what you want and fill your cup. Nodding and smiling to herself, Mynx nodded her head to the others she sensed in the room and went on her way, a kitten scampering ahead of her.
  17. Disjointed yet eerily familiar I stand in an empty room The dust of ages hangs in the air And still it feels like home Displaced yet strangely comforted I move to the only chair An ancient throne for long dead royals I take it as mine, resting there Despondent yet oddly hopeful I place chin upon my hand And wait for something I know will happen ...I just wish I knew what it was New Line: I welcome the Dark Passenger
  18. Have you ever just wanted to go out and lie in the rain?
  19. During my Christmas/New Years/Summer(hah!) break from work, I managed to catch three films: Saw 3, The Prestige, and Night at the Museum. Saw 3 Jigsaw can do no wrong in my eyes. This film was fantastic. Yes, even for a sequel. Even for a second sequel. If this had been a stand alone movie I would have enjoyed myself. Hell, the pre credits clip was better than all of Hostel (but we won't talk about that, for that movie is dead to me). The premise is similar as before, the main captives this time being a man stuck in a maze that forces him to accept the fact that he needs to just. get. over. things., and a female doctor kidnapped by Amanda (Shawnee Smith) to help Jigsaw (Tobin Bell). Once again, this film (along with its brothers) is not for the fainthearted. But I loved it. And not just for the gore. The acting and directing was top notch and they still managed to keep a nice (nasty?) little surprise at the end. The question that remains is, do they leave it as a nice little trilogy of sadism, or shoot themselves in the foot and try make more...? Gods I hope not. Game over? The Prestige Mmmm Christian Bale... Mmmm Christian Bale with an English accent... Another great movie, this one set in the 1900s and focusing on a pair of successful stage magicians. The pair (Bale and Jackman) have been rivals since Jackman blamed Bale for the death of his wife during a stage act they were apprenticing. Much emo and angst ensues. But it's actually not annoying angst. The way they work at each other is entertaining and borderline viscious, and although you pretty much have things figured out by the end, there are some nice little extra things you learn that make going back and seeing the film again just as enjoyable. The casting was brilliant, and for once director Nolan didn't set my teeth on edge with his work. ...Mmmm Christian Bale... Night at the Museum This is a typical family movie. Simple and fun enough to keep the kids entertained, but there are some moments that also entertain the adults. We have a down on his luck divorced father taking up the night watchman job at the local museum, only to discover that as soon as the sun sets, everything comes to life. And they mean everything. From wax statues to the T-Rex skeleton to the Easter Island statue, to...everything. I have to say, the story did leave me wanting a bit, and there were some hideously cheesy moments. But there was also a few moments that made me laugh. As for acting, it wasn't bad. Ben Stiller did a good job I think, and Owen Wilson only slightly annoyed me which is a big thing for him. Robin Williams' part was small but well played, and everyone else at the very least did enough to keep the story moving. Not a fantastic movie, but not bad either.
  20. A cacophony of truth Drowns out all the lies Forces me to look And fin'ly realise An orchestra of fact Plays to my very soul Forces me to listen Yes, it's time to go A stampeding of outrage Clings to me at the door But I force it to look, and see It will accept the score New line: Don't stop what you're not doing
  21. While I'd hardly call you a fool, Nix, I like this poem very much. The rambling flow works nicely with the content and I almost felt myself hypnotised by it. Although maybe that's just cos I need sleep... Seriously though, I like this lots *hugs*

    Love not

I love this Nix My brain's still fogey from being on holiday so I apologise for the lack of in depth feedback, but I really enjoy the flow of the poem. There's a kind of eeryness to it (is that even a word?) that gives me shivers and makes me grin every time I read it And I love the Macbeth-y feel to it Thought you'd like this too - the soliloquy you quoted from came from Act 5, Scene 5 *hugs* Thanks for sharing this hun
