I got a mention." Ahem. He assumes an appropriately serious face. Really good stuff - translates well. I think that my favorite is suddenly the one where sleep and the bed are calling. I've felt that one even at work sometimes... More! Dances out
  4. peredhil31 Elder of Lists and Manners Posts: 348 (10/30/01 5:51:22 am) Reply Why? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- well, one reason I did is that recent events have shown that non-members are quite capable of taking critical remarks and twisting them hurtfully. There's a whole world of difference when Mom says, "Wow, you should pop some of those zits!" and when an un-friend says it... Shrugs Let's put it to a vote! Everything here at the Pen is for the membership. You're not a private in the Army, you're one of the commanders! -Peredhil

Gosh I'm bright! I keep forgetting that this forum is passworded, because I don't quite understand why it is.
  6. peredhil31 Elder of Lists and Manners Posts: 346 (10/29/01 6:45:58 pm) Reply Re: Dictator -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I think this poem is interestingly twisty... It occurs to me that posting commentary here on posts made by visitors is somewhat defeats the purpose of feedback... moves over to the poem itself to comment.

  8. Jechum LoreMaster Posts: 143 (10/30/01 2:18:01 am) Reply Re: In the Old Way -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Interesting... I like it too, and I don't think I like crap. Except I guess I read it wrong... I look it as being yourself, In Your Own Way... There I go letting my ignorance be shown. I think Yui should revisit it someday. Edited by: Jechum at: 10/30/01 2:21:02 am

Yui Temae Herald Posts: 114 (10/27/01 8:20:05 pm) Reply Re: In the Old Way -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A breeze ruffles the shadows, a sound suspiciously like soft laughter ringing through. "You guys will read into anything." The amused fondness in the voice is clear. "If you ask me, that poem was crap. Some things are better left unwritten."

Nicely done. Of course, I spend a great deal of time reading into your verses... Traditions are important to me - but must each be tested to ensure they remain valid in the current generation...

I think it could use a little work and be great. I would recommend maybe dropping the word “Old”. Also here: Hurt. Fight and Hate. Die. Teach and Rest. Cry. It seems you’ve thrown two ideas together. Some day in the Old Way, I too may be able to throw words together and create pictures. I would really like to see you work the piece a little more for I think you have a diamond in the rough. Makes it easier to find. But it does seem I come here last, so the effect on me is not that great. Jechum Newbie, Mage of Shadows the Pen is Mightier than the Sword - Lore Master

Peredhil applauds Thank you - much easier to read in one place (although it IS acceptable to post each one as a separate reply in the same thread too). Good stuff. Powerful, raw, and evocative. That's a strong voice you have there. -Peredhil

The first Weenie Award 'buy-off' set a high standard for the rest of you! But don't worrry, I understand that we all can't be like Orlan. Peredhil tries a Sexy, Sexy Half-Elf look, but deflates on seeing a mirror. You really captured Minta there, Orlan, that was a fun read. My youngest son says anytime you want to tell him a bedtime story, you're invited. -Peredhil

Jechum floats out... [
  20. Orlan: Oh hell yeah, if I had magic powers getting kids to bed would be a helluva lot easier then the normal way lol
  21. I think I should copy this down and give it to my friends who have to babysit small children... an excellent piece of work, Orlan. =)
  22. Gyrfalcon25: Robert Jordan, yes. =) Great series, even if it does stretch on forever... one of the charms, actually.
  23. Zadown: Well, still reading it. I just isolated the thing that I most like about it - it is unconventional, I can't see how it will go forward. I've read so much average stuff that that is very refreshing. Goes to tug Peredhil's sleeve so that he'd write more parts.
  24. peredhil31: I've never read that one. Jordan? I've heard that I've stolen a number of things from it though - which means he must be stealing from the same classic sources as I! Peredhil
  25. Gyrfalcon25: I like it... very interesting, well written, waiting to find out what type of mage he is (I assume that he is a mage already...) The Voices remind me of Wheel of Time, and what some male channelers complain of...
