  1. Here's one: Embraced by the darkness, breathing it in.... turns into: Place setting of the density, he in the breathing... Makes perfect sense, doesn't it? *Edit* By the way, I think you can probably guess what I put into the Babelizer to get the following result: Relativo or Nichtsein, is the question
  2. sobterfuge - a false display of sorrow Hehe - some of these are great!

  4. Briefly grabbing Wyvern's shoulder on his way out, Ethics whispers out of the corner of his mouth "You will remember my commission, won't you Wyvie?".
  5. Seems to work now, I just went there to take a look around and WOW are some of those pictures amazing! :woot: How do they do that? In Photoshop? Simply stunning! That one goes in my bookmarks Thanks for sharing the link, Rune.
  6. I thought of it like this: After the pizza guy gives back three dollars, the three men have paid him 3*9=27 dollars. Out of those 27 dollars, 25 are for the pizza, and he kept the 2 extra dollars as a tip. So, nothing is missing. The error is in the last part, where you added 27 and 2 to get 29, when in fact the 2 are already included in the 27
  7. I enjoyed it too Like mistral said, it's easy to relate to the feelings in this poem. Looking at people around you, feeling like you don't really belong - I guess we can all feel a bit like that sometimes.
  8. I got this idea from somewhere once, I'm not sure if it's silly or wise or both Living is expensive, but one lap 'round the sun is included every year free of charge :woot: Happy birthday, Justin!
  9. Another one :woot: Did you hear about that dyslexic devil worshipper, who sold his soul to Santa?
  10. Bring out the cake and the silly party hats! :woot: The almost-dragon is 20 today! Congratulations! *dons silly hat and waits for the giant cake to arrive*
  11. I enjoyed this. The image that I paint in my mind of a beautiful sunset is offset by the sadness of the words of your poem. I liked the contrast Thank you for sharing this.
  12. Hehehe, I've just sung your song to myself. I hardly understand a word of it, but I think it sounds great Good job! *starts humming again with a smile on his face*
  13. Hey! Yes, that's it! You turned it into a poem! That's a really neat way of answering. The more time I spend on these boards, the more I find myself wishing I could write poetry too. I shall have to start practising, I think
  14. Hehe, that was great! Apparently, this is me: I am the sonnet, never quickly thrilled; Not prone to overstated gushing praise Nor yet to seething rants and anger, filled With overstretched opinions to rephrase; But on the other hand, not fond of fools, And thus, not fond of people, on the whole; And holding to the sound and useful rules, Not those that seek unjustified control. I'm balanced, measured, sensible (at least, I think I am, and usually I'm right); And when more ostentatious types have ceased, I'm still around, and doing, still, alright. In short, I'm calm and rational and stable - Or, well, I am, as much as I am able. What Poetry Form Are You? I hope that I one day can write a sonnet
  15. Wow, I think this is the first poem about a sword fight I've seen. Like Justin said, not all poetry needs to be abstract. This started me thinking about a struggle between youthful strength on one side, and age and experience on the other. Age and experience can defeat youth, but in the end youth will win. Only, even in winning youth will inevitably be transformed into aged experience... so who really wins? Thank you for setting my mind in motion
  16. Interesting question, Falcon2001 Since the gradient of a function at a particular point is a vector pointing in the direction in which that function increases the most I suppose both interpretations can be valid. It will depend on your definition of your function, the 'ethics field' in this case. Personally I think about it as the direction in which ethics increase the most, so I guess a shifting from less ethical towards more ethical would be closest. Or from a lower, towards a higher standard of ethics if you will For more information about gradients, go here - if you have an interest in math, anyway
  17. Once I had seen the title, I had to read it I liked the way you used the colours, at first I interpreted them as moods or feelings, then as words or thoughts, or maybe something like life force - it made me read it again and again, and I found that I quite liked that flowing feeling of not knowing for certain. To sum up, I think it's great. I really enjoyed it.
  18. *Huggles Cery back and flashes big smiles at the familiar faces of Peredhil and Wyvern, as well as the friendly but unfamiliar ones* And yes, I've been to the recruitment office now It's great to be here, you've all made me feel really welcome. Suddenly noticing Scarlett's situation as she struggles to climb over the gate, completely unaware of the impending danger from the annoyed bull, Ethics rushes over to save her and her tiger-striped overshirt, which she apparently took the time to remove before starting her climb. It is now hanging neatly folded over the top of the fence. As Scarlett drops down on the inside of the gate and starts to run across the field, Ethics quickly climbs over, grabbing the tiger shirt in the process and sets off straight for the bull stall, waving the shirt over his head and shouting in an attempt to distract the bull. His elation when the bull turns to face him instead quickly fades as he realises that his plan doesn't really cover what to do with the bull now...
  19. The office of the Elder of Initiates is quiet, thick bundles of disarrayed papers and scribbled notes covering every available surface under a thin layer of dust. The only things moving are a few dust motes floating in the air where the sunlight shines in through the window. Then the silence is suddenly broken by someone knocking on the door. To someone in the room, the knocking would have a distinctly impatient sound. Of course, noone is there to hear it - the Elder of Initiates is a very busy man. In the corridor outside, Ethics listens in vain for any sounds from within. With a sigh, he reads the note on the door again. 'Back in 5 - Wyv.' 'Five what?' he thinks to himself. Not minutes, as he had first assumed, that is painfully clear by now. Nor hours, or even days. He fondly remembers when he thought it might mean mere days. The time since then has been busy, his days taken up by ever-changing schemes to get inside that door to hand in his application, each one discarded for one reason or another. Most often because they were really good ideas, they just wouldn't work. Like that steam-powered battering ram that had looked so promising at first, yet proved so disastrous in the end. With a shudder, he touches his eyebrows carefully. Yes, they are definitely beginning to grow back now. Looking down at the heavy package containing his application, he hopes for the eleventysecond time that his plan will work. Discovering that section of the rules describing the procedures for accepting or rejecting applications to the Pen had been a stroke of pure luck. 'Before rejecting any application, the Elder of Initiates is required to carefully read it in its entirety at least twice.' Well, three thousand pages of nothing but 'Please accept my application' should do the trick. If not, just the value of the heavy golden box containing those three thousand pages should be enough to persuade the almost-dragon. Alchemy does have its uses. Realising the futility of waiting around any longer in the hope that Wyvern will return, he turns around and heads for outside, and his final attempt to deliver his application. It's going to work this time. It has to! After carefully loading the catapult and cranking back its throwing arm, he meticulously aligns it with the right window before pulling the release lever, and watches the application soar rather gracefully through the air, before it crashes through the window of Wyvern's office. Success at last!
  20. Aye, maybe someone will remember Mindspawn, from all those ages ago before my DNA replacement. Sorry to hear about Frosty, he's really dead dead this time then? No chance of another miraculous recovery? EG's been dormant for a long time now, but he still exists, last I checked anyway
  21. 'Scarlet? Well, you do look a little flushed, but I would rather say something close to orange actually.' Ethics calmly studies Scarlett as she rushes towards him, and adds 'With stripes like a tiger of course, I really like those by the way!' Scarlett's advance is halted as she stops to look herself up and down, the cleaver forgotten in one hand. 'Yes, I'm quite pleased with those myself, actually' she says with an approving smile. 'Oh, and Scarlett is my name, not my skin colour!'
  22. Erm, well I had this grand entrance planned... guess I just spoiled it, huh? *Dusts self off* If the re-entry angle had been just slightly better.... ah, well never mind. Lesson learned. Well, I'm new around here so I thought I should say hello to everyone I'm looking forward to getting to know you all, I'm sure I will enjoy my stay here. *waves*
