  1. Bleh, this is a hideous poem, but I feel the need to get this all off my chest. Don't bother replying to it, I know it's bad and I really don't care what your opinion is on the matter, either. This is just being posted to get it out somewhere. I'm confused Because it seems that I Have a tendency (more of a habit) Of slipped on gloves buttery and slick Whenever I handle a relationship Is it worth it in the end, to entertain notions Of tousled sheets and morning sunshine Shining on two bodies slicked with sweat? Is it worth it - seeing my track record Of irrational, irresponsible, irrevocable behavior To even still feel pain or love or lust? I look at these things that I've done and I ask myself Whether I have merely been saying the wrong things Or if somehow I am flawed on a much more base level If, when I was being created, God's holy hand slipped And fractured a delicate connector somewhere and in his haste He decided it would make for an excellent character trait And tossed me screaming into the world Is it normal to have to learn how to interact with others? Is it normal to always need something to worry about Is it normal to wonder if these things are normal? I wonder sometimes why I still breathe - I have far more than enough reason To take a knife and run it down both wrists until I see myself begin to flow But I am afraid of death, now, and have grown weak. Why is my memory fading from view, like the sands of time slipping away Why can't I find someone who will love me, or at least stay with me in the night I stay up, remembering how nice it felt to sleep next to someone And realizing that in the end, it was all my fault. Prose is a lazy poet's way of expressing himself I am less of an artist than I wish I could be But for now, I will sit and bemoan my fate And continue moving forward into infinity.
  2. Deg - are you allowing merits and flaws from the Player's Guide? I'm thinking of playing an Exalt with some sort of serious lack. I'm currently deciding between him being totally numb, or totally blind - both of which would be extremely interesting.
  3. Ho-ly cow. It's been quite a while, ~O~, good to see you again.
  4. Lorem Ipsum, Peredhil - www.lipsum.com will explain better than I can. It's basically ancient filler text.
  5. Erm, one of those lunars votes was actually for solars. I apologize.
  6. Looks like I'm still here - and if Deg wants to run Exalted I will defer to him for now, as I <3 that system and would love to play in it, and I'm still pretty busy keeping this boat afloat.
  7. Good job on the paper. As a D&D player myself, I know a few people that aren't the better for playing, but in general most people seem to be pretty easygoing.
  8. Well in better news, I've picked up a web design contract and also managed to possibly force them into hiring me at school, so if all goes well I'll be This is a happy Falcon. Anyway, in addition, check out this website http://www.rainbowrvresort.com <-- old one http://silvertrip.hopto.org/rainbowrv <-- new one I made, some bugs left. *BONUS* http://www.webhostcompany.com <-- their webhost. I am going to change it to a much cleaner one. For those of you who happen to be religious, keep me in your prayers. I'll need it. Also if you happen to be looking for cheap webhosting and design, I happen to be your man!
  9. So it's finally come down to it. It's the first of the month, and I don't have any money at all. Rent has come knocking. I'm in my third semester at university, and it's looking like I'll have to give up and move back home, but I don't think I could stand to do that, so I'll probably end up hopping from place to place...I'm not really sure what to say. I've spent the last four months looking for a job, managing to scrape together cash to pay rent and utilities and surviving off of meager scraps of peanut butter and whatever else I have. It's been a long four months, and even though school is going well, it looks like things are finally coming to a head. My family has made it abundantly clear that the only support I will receive from them is a roof over my head if and when I drop out of college. I have been tossing around the idea that possibly someone snuck up on me and tattooed 'Do not hire this man under any circumstances' on my forehead in manager-only ink, but I've since come to accept that they also tattooed 'lol he smells funny' because I'm sure a few managers would have taken the risk. I have submitted a metric ton of job applications, been rejected more times than I can count, and am currently reaching the acceptance phase. If I do end up losing my apartment and having to hop around, the D&D game is called off until further notice, and I apologize to anyone that inconveniences. Real life is taking it's toll.
  10. Is this all the people that are interested?
  11. If I ever had a girl, I promised myself I'd name her Aurora, because that is a spiffy name. Seeing as how I'm not planning on having any children, I bequeath the name to ye. Do with it as you will. I like it.
  12. Heh, I have a friend of mine that's been constantly on my back about X-Crawl, sounds like fun but not my style.
  13. This post is futile and was moved to the top.
  14. http://www.patrickdurham.net/themightypen/index.php?act=ST&f=5&t=13320 Phase one begins!
  15. Alright, ladies and gentlemen, it's time to start actual recruitment. Here's the way things will go. 1: You go to www.d20srd.org and look around at the classes and races to see what sort of character you want to be playing. This part of the process is purely story-based. I want you to see what you want to play as, then give me a basic character overview and description. Worry about the mechanics of this later, as long as you're not producing a character who is the champion of all that is good, etc etc. Exercise restraint, I'd rather have 1 well thought out, normal character than 10 who are apparently demigods in the realms of man. <--Example Begins!--> Name: Celion Cartheye Concept: Traveling Cleric Race: Human Gender: Male Eyes: Blue Hair: Brown Height: 6'8" Weight: 270 lbs Bio: Celion was born into a middle-class family of carpenters and masons, where strength was of much importance. Since the founding of their house, the Cartheye Giants have had a reputation for excellent work morale, and a selflessness and gentleness that belies their huge size. At a young age, Celion was walking through his hometown when a house burst into flames. Ignoring the protests of the onlookers, he rushed into the house, looking for any survivors. He went in three times, rescuing the mother, husband and child each seperate time, then collapsing of exhaustion outside the square. When he awoke, he found himself lying in a hospital bed, with a cleric of Heironeous standing over him. As he was healed by the cleric, he heard the voice of Heironeous call to him, and at that moment, he decided to dedicate himself to the protection of the weak and the defense of good. He seems almost old-fashioned at times, very loud and boisterous at times but always extremely polite. He is much less lawful than Heironeous normally calls for, but is conistently in the service of good. He is currently traveling, looking for a chance to champion the cause of good. <---This is where the example is ending---> I'll stress this again - worry about your stats and such later. Alright, have fun! There will be a maximum of six participants, and less if I deem it necessary. Be aware that if I get 8 druids, and you submitted one of them, your druid better be the coolest druid to ever dru. However, if I get a cleric with a slightly weaker backstory than I wanted, but it's the only cleric or healer, it'll get in. If there are any questions, contact me via instant messenger (it's in my profile) or via IRC. If you message me, I will message you back, even if it's not immediate. I promise right now that I will pick solely based on my own selfish opinions and nobody elses. I reserve the right to randomly pick people based on dice, phases of the moon, my blood pressure, or a algorithm combining all three or other factors yet undisclosed. Like so = Alignment Map Lawful Good Neutral Good Chaotic Good Lawful Neutral True Neutral Chaotic Neutral Lawful Evil Neutral Evil Chaotic Evil Domains refer to the clerical domains, which are basically extra stuff for clerics only. Rank is as follows - L = Lesser, I = Intermediate, G = Greater. This doesn't have much of an effect, really. Just tells you how powerful the god is and how widely known he is. Favored Weapon applies mostly to clerics, again, but other followers of this God could easily be wielding it as well. Portfolio is a description of all the cool things that they're in charge of. Gives you a good idea about the god. Alright, those tables took like three hours. Darn you Yui and PHPBB.
  16. Right now I want a maximum of six people, but they will be chosen once I post an actual recruitment and OOC thread on the merits of their characters as opposed to first-come, first-served. This is a writing community, and if you're just going to make Smashy McSmasherson with no backstory, then you'll find yourself at the bottom of the ladder.
  17. The SRD stands for System Rules Document, which is the basic rules for dungeons and dragons, which is distributed for free by WotC
  18. Rolls will be made by me in a dicebot. I'm playing the way that I've been playing on another forum, and generally the DM does all of the rolling for fairness and sanity's sake. Having every person roll seperately is crazy to keep track of for a DM. Tzim/Deg - I'd play a d10 system but the only one I'm familiar with right now is Exalted, and in all fairness a good portion of the writing here is more D&D-like, even if I do love Exalted. Also I'm much more familiar with D&D, and the SRD is available online instead of having to tell people to go 'find' e-copies of the rulebooks - and I feel that a pretty much pure PHB game like this will be is going to be fairly simple. Rules on classes and such are as follows: If it isn't from the eberron setting book (which I'll detail soon) or the official SRD, then no, you can't play as it. This is going to be newbie friendly and I'm not looking to have to search through all of my rulebooks for the ruling on how a Howling Scavenger's special class ability interacts with other stuff. I'll type up the new eberron rules soon, but basically it includes a new class - artificer - and about five new races, which are pretty , so once I get those typed up, feel free to choose among those and those found at the SRD. Quick description of D20 rules - you roll a d20, add any bonuses to that roll and if it's over a certain number, you win. The number you have to beat, or the DC (Difficulty Check) is dependant on the situation. For instance, if I wanted to jump across a 5 foot gap it might be a DC 10 jump check. But if I wanted to leap across a 20 foot ravine, it might be much higher, up to DC 30 or so. By standard rules, a natural 20 is an automatic success, and a natural 1 is an automatic failure.
  19. Incidentally, I hate posting threads like this but I too haven't been around much and will be more now. I like to call this coming back... NINJA STYLE.
  20. A world of mystery and heroics, where enchantments and magicks galore run amuck, where the dire forces of evil battle against the various forces of good, all vying for supremacy over the world. I'm currently thinking about running a Dungeons and Dragons game on this forum with play-by-post. I'll explain the details later in this post. Dungeons and Dragons is a roleplaying game, one of the first (if not the very first) RPGs created. It's currently in it's third-and-a-half edition, and has been going strong from quite some time. A good way to think about it is a video game, but without the video. I'm sure a few people around here are familiar with the system, and those that aren't are free to join as well. The core rules are available at www.d20srd.org for free Basically it'll be set in one of three campaign settings, which will effect the way the game is run and the basic flavor of the campaign. First up is Greyhawk, the initial and typical D&D universe. Pretty well rounded out and I won't need to supply any additional materials beyond those detailed in the SRD. Excellent basic campaign, easy layout, lots of space to roam. Typically high fantasy, running around with clerics and wizards and fighters and such. Second is Eberron, the new campaign setting wizard of the coast has been pushing. It's a very gritty, low-fantasy feel to it - magic is everywhere but in much different uses than typical D&D. For instance, there are hardly any other heroes in the world to the degree that a D&D character could reach. Spells such as Reincarnate are hard to find, but everbright lanterns illuminate everywhere. The feel is very pulp-y, like a black and white detective flick. If enough interest is shown, I'll explain more. Finally we have Halcyon - the game setting I've been working on. It's set up as five planes that each connect to a negative energy plane that serves as the only method of transportation between the different planes. Characters would start off on one of the four elemental planes together and would adventure from there. Knowledge of the other planes is basically unknown, however. The game would be run on the forums, with each person posting detailing their actions, etc etc. It's slower than running it on IRC, but we're a writing community, and this method produces actual stories as opposed to "lol I smack the skeleton okay where's my XP". I'll explain the general posting system later, but basically the standard one I'm used to is constructed in the following order: First is the Book number, Chapter number and then Post number in order. This helps keep cohesiveness, as well as allowing for easy indexing. This is in bold, along with the actual post, which follows. After that, in italics (not bold) you post the mechanics behind the post, and finally after that, in plaintext, you have any OOC comments or such. Example follows: <----Begin Example----> 2.1.59 Celion moves through the underbrush as silently as a woodsparrow, his sword a silent harbinger of still death. +9 to move silently, taking the route closest to the wall. Man I hope Celion doesn't get smashed by YON OGRE. <----End Example----> Vote for your favorite setting or give a reason why you don't want to do it, as I'd be interested. Edit: What in the nine hells of balor happened to my poll. Where did those /s come from? I'm confused!
  21. Heh, I completely agree, though I do like my ikea bookshelf I put together. Not only does it stand, but it only wobbles a little.
  22. Bah, Salinye. I came into this thinking we were going to be guessing the sex of various pen members. I was nigh prepared to drop a vote for female on that Falcon fellow. Shifty eyes, smells like perfume. Incidientally my mother always told me that she wished I could have 10 children as hyper as I am or one 10 times as hyper. (voted boy for hair-raising childhood)
  23. "As explained by Sir Marvin in his eighteenth-century treatise on magicks and arcanum, the various pagan realms have merely been channeling residual energy from the earth's magnetic field - Jeral!" Professor Hayden's voice snapped across the room like a whipcrack, jarring Jeral out of his revery. "Uh, oh. Sorry sir." He said, staring directly down at the textbook. The writing was clear and technical, but the images looked almost in stark contrast to the text. Symbols were scrawled across the pages, letters and phrases in a language that made Jeral's mind quiver oddly when he tried to read them. Deciding that the book wasn't much less uncomfortable than the teacher, he brought his gaze up. Professor Hayden was an average individual by almost all accounts. His face was average, his height was just a little shorter than Jeral, his hair was of a mediocre cut and he was clean shaven. His body was of a medium build, his clothing neither stood out nor was sneaky, and his eyes were a smoky brown color. However, his hair stood out, a blindingly pure white even though he appeared to be in his mid-thirties. However mediocre his overall appearance was, though, it was difficult to keep his gaze for more a few seconds without feeling like electricity was trying to crawl up your spine. "Mr. Jeral, perhaps you'd care to explain to the rest of the students what Marvin's Second Law states about the properties of alchemical reactions?" the teacher asked, a thin smile on his lips. Shaking his head slightly, Jeral cleared his throat and began to recite in a monotone. "The second law restates the law of energy conservation in magic. What energy is used in the reaction has to be made up with a sacrifice of some sort or with energy from the earth itself." "Looks like you've been reading your texts more. So how much energy would a simple reaction such as boiling water take?" Jeral paused, numbers running through his head. "It should take about 63 joules. That amount of energy can be drawn from the c-caster's own energy without any ill effect, though repeated use of it can result in fatigue or other side effects." "Straight from the texts. Alright, class, you're dismissed." Professor Hayden grinned and turned back to his messy desk as students streamed out chatting eagerly amongst themselves. Jeral breathed a sigh of relief and absent-mindedly dusted off his jacket, moving back to his room. --should be more soon, I know this is a bad update.--
  24. Excellent use of repetition, though I admit to being mildly confused as to the perspective that the poem is being written from. I guess I'm just not as good at reading them thar things as I used to. *scratches his white beard and peers through spectacles*
