The Pen is Mightier than the Sword

Crimson Moon

Foamy grey clouds close above

A nameless stranger loiters

As the carnival ends and lights go out

He hides his face beneath his satin cloak

As he holds out a cup in silence

Filled only with small change, he silently laughs

Feeling powerful and impenetrable

Knowing his ploy would go untarnished

A lonely girl plops a quarter in his cup and passes by

Heading toward the docks and open sea

Haunting shadows whisper tales of the past

And she shivers in her summer dress

Creeping in the shadows, he nears his prey

And he hesitates as spirits fill the air

Parting skies open to the celestial beings

Most radiant is the crimson moon

He waits in darkness willed to quench his thirst

She stands propped at the end of the dock

Gazing at this unreal scene of nature

As he approaches, she remains dazed

Silently, he cups his hand over her mouth

And grabs her around the waist with his other hand

Muffling her scream, he turns her around

Her eyes open wide in surprise

“Happy Birthday Sis- I’m back from the War!”

He lets go and opens his arms

And she hugs her big brother in pure happiness

So shines the crimson moon

Full of hope and answered prayers.
