The Pen is Mightier than the Sword

Exalted Characters

Recommended Posts

Name: Meroiba Tigage (pronounced Muh-roy-bah Tee-Gah-Jay),

Titles: The Heartless, The Grayman

Height: 6'8"

Weight: 240 lbs

Eyes: Gray

Hair: Black

Meroiba is an odd aspect of humanity. Raised in the frozen wastelands, he grew up with a family as a fairly normal boy. Always considered to be lean and wiry, he quickly proved that there was muscle in there, one of the strongest men in his tribe. In addition, he was blessed with a quick mind and a face that drew happy sighs from the village girls. He was a role model to the others, and it was common knowledge that he was in line to be the next chief, until disaster struck.

In the midst of a blizzard, a slew of bandits struck the village, raiding it under the cover of snow. Meroiba took a sword slash across the face, giving him a livid scar across his nose. He managed to kill quite a few of them, but then the blizzard reached fever pitch and swept in like a vengeful spirit, scattering them all to the winds. The bandits were defeated, but Meroiba and the village were also destroyed, the survivors of the fight dying to the frigid temperatures.

Cold and silence overtook Meroiba, and he drifted into a coma.

Inside his mind, he felt the touch of another, someone with unimaginable power. Looking up in his mind's eye, he saw a man with eyes that shone like the sun. I raise thee among my chosen, go forth, and seek your place in the world. It is not your lot to die here. The man said, and touched Meroiba.

He awoke screaming, screaming with more fury and hatred then he had ever known existed in him. He was surrounded by snow and ice, which proved to be little protection from an angry Exalt. Burrowing his way up through the snow, he came to the top to find nothing but a snowdrift where his village had once been. Gazing at the destruction, he shed a single tear, which ran down his deadened skin without feeling. During his time in the snow, his senses had all died, leaving him completely numb. His former lifestyle completely torn from him, he wandered across the wastelands until he came to Nexus, where he has spent the last few years as a killer for hire. Slowly, he is dying inside, to match the numbness on the outside.

He is marked by his height and gauntness, which he does nothing to conceal. Remarkably strong especially since his exaltation, he remains a fighter, though his mind has remained as sharp as ever. A man of few words, he prefers action to talk.

He wears loose grey clothing and always has his extremeties swathed in white bandaging. Traditionally seen in the corner of a bar, drinking his wages from the last night away to a mildly terrified audience.

Alright, that's the basic concept, needs some work (need to find a place to find ice in the exalted world) and I'll update once I get it set up.

Qab-dhali Hannas

Height: Looks most men in the eye

Weight: Thick in the middle; tiny wrists, ankles and feet

Color: Henna--some natural, some not

Caste: Eclipse

Title: Magicchant-bittersweet (euphemism used in the South), the Sun Vulva (to herself)

Concept: Nameless no longer

For eastern tribes in exile, where every encounter ran the risk of enslavement, even patriarchy had to bow to survival. Four widows could conjoin their families and act as a single male head of household; they might even marry slave women, although the children of a foursquare union were always hannas, barren and un-nameable. Canny foursquare fathers sold their non-heirs in cities, to sewer companies, debased criminal syndicates, and other fates unfit for real people. Enlightened foursquare fathers kept in contact with their un-nameable children and reaped profit from being the only human contact they had.

The Qab-dhali shop sold advice-giving magical chants, medicinal rum with violent effects, dried alligator penises (ground for men, whole for women), and replacement sutures for non-virgins; could an un-person care about morality laws? She was old, over thirty although she never went through puberty, when Nexus campaigned to clean itself and stop the spread of the Solars. Each neighbor swore on his grandmothers’ graves that he did not help pull the official off of his horse, no, no, although he saw plainly that the official set the poor orphan girl on fire, yes! While the investigation stagnated and developed a latrine stink, Qab-dhali (now the woman) wrapped a fresh cloth around her head, tuned her storytelling rattles, and decided to take a short vacation.

Roleplaying notes: Qab-dhali is a depraved old maid with a little girl’s voice and a mouth like an open sewer. (“This sewer ain’t open! Come back when you get your peach fuzz!” was the final line to said pesky official, with illustrative gesture.) Young, old, man, woman, they all get what’s coming to them and a bit more. Bluster aside, Qab-dhali has heard more dirty secrets than anyone in the district, and kept them, and dealt with them; she’s a step above the un-person’s tolerated status and maybe, secretly, appreciated by non-Easterners. The newness of being a named person has made her giddy and childish, though, and willing to stick like glue to the first poor soul who treats her as an equal.

Joachim Nellemt

Title: Priest of the Illuminated Shadows

Height: 5'9"

Weight: 165lbs

Hair: Stark white

Eyes: Green

Caste: Zenith

Joachim was born a gutter of the Imperial City into a family of disenfranchised beggars who claimed to be an offshoot of one of the Dynastic houses. As such, he grew up with a moderate education from his parents until the day they were murdered in cold blood by a city guard. The guard's only punishment was a few days in jail for "staining the street with the filthy blood of the disenfranchised." When Joachim found out about this he gathered friends of his family in force and marched them toward the barracks to deal their own justice to that guard. They were met by a Dragon Blooded who was inspecting the barracks at the time. Joachim's makeshift mob scattered, but Joachim stood resolute even as the Dragon Blooded began to beat him.

It was then that he had a vision of the Unconquered Sun exhorting him to stand against the Realm and speak out against its heretical Immaculate Order. Joachim stood up against the Dragon Blooded's blows, disarmed him and killed him with his own weapon. Forced to flee the Imperial City with the Wyld Hunt close behind, Joachim has crossed the Blessed Isle under the title of Priest of the Illuminated Shadows, exhorting the lower classes of the Realm to rebel in the name of the Unconquered Sun.

Auleri

Height: 5'3"

Weight: 120 lbs

Hair: Platinum Blonde

Eyes: Grey

Caste: Dawn

Concept: Disgraced Exalted

Again she dreamed. It was the third time tonight.

Half blinded by the dazzling light, she stared defiantly into the heavans. Her anima swirled around her, blazing wings of white and gold triumphant over her fallen foe. A voice from the

sky spoke in terrible anger, words obscured by it's volume. She recalled shouting back in defiance, before raising her hands against the terrible visage before her.

*

A rough kick to the ribs brought Auleri awake. She muttered a few choice curses and rolled over, covering her eyes with one hand. The corpse collector grunted and kicked one of the

others she was sharing the gutter with. Finding no response, he gleefully seized the body by it's legs and dragged it towards his cart. An apprentice quickly hopped down to strip anything

of value from the corpse before marking it. The two of them then piled the dead woman atop the dozen other corpses before driving away.

Rubbing the sleep from her eyes, Auleri rose slowly and staggered over to a nearby water through. She paused and gazed at her scattered reflection - a mortal woman in bare rags, Caste

Sigil, nor Anima to mark her kind. Mentally, she counted off another day, the sixty seventh since she was exiled to this forsaken mortality. After cleaning herself the best she could Auleri

turned to find four women standing by the alley mouth. Sensing slim pickings, she picked up a small bundle of belongings and set out for Market Street.

Market Street was crowded by the time she arrived, with the sun about to crest noon. Auleri made her way through the crowd of beggars and street vendors, hitching her ragged skirt up

to the waist to reveal the guild tattoo on her thigh.

Quite suddenly, she felt a knife at her back. It was all she could do to freeze. A rough voice crooned over her shoulders. "You and I are going to take a side trip, lass - down the next side

street."

The skinny man guided her off the main street and into the twisting maze of alleys and out of sight. Roughly, he prodded her towards three other men loitering in the dim streets. Auleri's

heart sank as she spied a limp foot sticking out behind piles of rubbish. These were not thieves. Sensing her realization the largest of the trio grinned, showing decayed teeth.

"Ya want to strip first whore? Bloody clothes are hard to sell aye."

The knife moved up to her throat, and Auleri tensed. Just as the gang leader was about to nod, the air turned unnaturally still, and her eyes widened at a glorious visage that floated down

the narrow street.

"Hail, fallen one. Run into a spot of trouble, have we?"

Falling to one knee, Auleri placed one fist over heart and touched her forehead to the ground.

"Lord."

"When I heard the betrayer of the White Circle was working in the poor quarter of the Nexus, I could scarsely believe it. How fare ye, captain?"

She grimaced. How like the gods to mock her before she died.

"I fare well, lord. Soon it will be over."

"I think not."

Bitterly, she said; "Pardon lord, but you seemed to think so."

" I had nothing to do with your pride Auleri. Nor the madness that made you slay your circle members, but I have use for you yet."

Eyes smouldering, Auleri raised here head to look at the embodiment of Sol in the eye.

"But why, lord?"

"You have work left undone, Captain, and your penance is complete. Finish what you have started, and you shall be free."

She paused a moment to reflect, then nodded. "Very well, m'lord.

"Then be touched, again."

A tendril of light detached itself from the shapeless apparition, snaked it's way down to the woman's forehead. Auleri gasped as she felt new power infusing her body, filling it with light. Tears of joy ran openly down her face as she embraced the fammiliar spirit pulsing through her body.

"Thank you, m'lord"

Xiphias the Blinding

Height: Tall

Weight: Erm... heavy.

Eyes: Green

Hair: None

Caste: Dawn

Concept: Mercenary/Glory Seeker

Anima: Crashing waves surmounted by a menacing er... ok, it's a swordfish. But a really nice swordfish! Seriously, those things are menacing.

Xiphias was raised mostly on a boat, the sun soaked into his skin during the day, and the warm sea rocked him to sleep at night. He lived for the mornings, waking before the sun to pull in the nets, watching the red and golden glow of each new dawn.

It wasn't until he nearly drowned that he left the great blue ocean. It was the largest haul of the season, and Xiphias' leg got caught in the rigging. A sudden gust of wind rocked the ship onto its side, and Xiphias was pulled over the edge. The rope held him fast under the ship, and as his last breaths were draining, the sea exploded around him. The Unconquered Sun shone brightly above, and he heard His voice charging him to remain alive to do His work.

Xiphias felt stronger then, and the rigging which had held him tight burst under his new strength. He moved inland, then, and was soon picked up as a sword-for-hire, even though he didn't at that time know how to swing one very well. After all, he was huge. And the shiny thing was pretty damn impressive.

Ever since, he's moved from army to army, killing in the name of the Sun, and always for the highest bidder. His tactics tend towards the incredulous, and have made him a feared figure on any battlefield; both to his allies and foes. For instance, he once toppled one of his own army's siege engines onto the opposing commander. Granted, this caused heavier casualties to his own forces than the other, but the loss of the opposing general was the deciding factor in the winning of that particular battle.

He can usually be found wherever there's money to be made, or glory to be had; not necessarily in that order. Sometimes though, the Unconquered Sun calls him to do His bidding, and Xiphias can do nothing to rebel, nor would he. After all, he knows whom he owes his life...
