  1. *checks behind himself to see the reason for the commotion* ~O~ Hmmm... "commotion" = "com-" + "-motion" "Com" = abreviation for "Communication" "Motion" = paraphrase of movement Therefor... "Commotion" = "walkie talkies"?
  2. Foop - n. The small amount of soda (or beer) that sits by the rim of a can after a sip. Usage: "He always sucks the foop off his can because he's obsessive compulsive." ~O~ Modabout - conj. "Modivated about." Usage: "What are you modabout?" ~O~ Belignorant - adj. To be stubbornly and aggressively foolish. "The father of one of my students is the most belignorant person I've ever met; he doesn't believe in 'book learning.'"

I was mainly thinking of the great Nimball game (not the one in the library) and the immortal LLTST.
  4. I ran into the Library forum, and was hit by a wave of nostalgia. Once I dried off, I began to wonder if anyone had any of the great threads. I had copies to many of them, but my computer was stollen last summer. I'd love to get ahold of them again.
  5. Ahhh... this just makes me heartsick. In another Nimball game, I met the love of my life... who later STABBED ME IN THE BACK! (That's what happens when you fall in love with sports equipment.)
  6. I've been thinking about it, and I *think* I used to use the names Falcon and Panther on AM. I know I used both other places at around the same time period.
  7. I once saw a show by Dr. Phil. He was talking with a group of people who were overweight. Many of them said that they were genetically predisposed towards obesity. Dr. Phil's comment? ~O~ "Tough." ~O~ His point was that while there were factors outside of our control that made aspects of our lives harder than some other people's. So? Life isn't fair. Just because we have a fatal flaw doesn't mean we have to give in to it. Isn't one of the great definitions of a hero someone who overcomes their internal challenges on their way to overcoming external challenges? ~O~ So just because people are predisposed towards obsession doesn't mean that they must go quietly into the dark night. They can fight if they so wish, even if their fight will be difficult. That's why I mentioned my one-drink-rule with alcohol. ~O~ Besides, as a die-hard dice-chucker... I have to ask; is an obsession with roleplaying games a weakness or a strength?
  8. Si vous etes Belge, vous devriez parler francais, n'est pas? Bienvenu si oui, mais seullement si oui. Sinon, tant pis.
  9. Yup... I was a regular poster on the old boards, too... but it was so long ago that I forgot what name I used to post with. Back in those days, I didn't post much... I just lurked in the chat rooms. For any of you who remember The Legendary Imposter's Apprentice, I became The Legendary Imposter to annoy him. The old chat room allowed one to log on with any name you wanted, including that of someone already in the room. So as soon as he'd log on, I'd log on as him. It was great practice at paying attention to how people wrote. It drove him nuts. ~O~ I also knew a hack code that allowed you to post commentary that would be attributed to the room itself, rather than a specific speaker. So I became the Bulletin Board. ~O~ I also played periodic pranks using the above hack that allowed me to state that someone had logged in, even when they hadn't. ~O~ One person who really liked the entire set of pranks in that room was Smiley. At one point, we had a dozen people in there claiming to be Smiley. I was 3 of them, if I remember right. I have no idea who the others were. I'm assuming that at least one was the original.
  10. Why would they bother to knit sweaters when they obviously did it to imitate the princess? Or was she (the princess) knitting, too?
  11. I'm a religious fundamentalist... at least that's what I call someone who strives to practice the foundations of a religion. ~O~ I thought that it was interesting that you commented on the "obsessiveness" of roleplaying games. I know from my family history that I have a predisposition towards alcoholism from both sides of my family (it's the reason that my parents don't drink at all, and why I have a one-drink-limit). I'd like to propose the idea that obsessiveness in general is something to which one has a predisposition. As a result, people will move from one compulsion to another. Hence, a drug-addict will often become a dedicated smoker. An alcoholic can become addicted to religion. ~O~ This has a couple of ramifications. ~O~ First off, we can argue that roleplaying is keeping people from more harmful obsessions such as drugs. ~O~ Second, though, we could ask a question; is there a link between the character traits that spark an interest in roleplaying and a predisposition to obsessions?
  12. Yui... you changed your name, which threw me for a few moments. I was having trouble placing you... but of course I remember Yenta! ~O~ Appy, yes, actually... I did shamelessly steal the character from T.P. before I developed my own persona. Who can resist being someone who can count as high as "many"? ~O~ Loki, I hadn't actually wondered about the origin of the word detritus before, but from your post, I'd be willing to bet that it's related to "detruire," the French verb "to destroy."
  13. *tries to stand on his head, but rolls away*
  14. Holy smoke! THAT takes me back. I haven't used the name Detritus (it means "left-over rubble"; sounds nicer than it is) since my HoJ days. Good to see you again, Yui. Have you seen LordSnoops or DarkDove? I still keep in touch with LadyNight. ~O~ And yes, Starlight, the humble request was very humbling.
  15. I've noticed that there seems to be a strong dice-chucking population here. If anyone has a desire to play in a fantasy-oriented GURPS game, I'm running one on weekends in AIM chatrooms. Let me know at micahbickford@hotmail.com if you're interested.
  16. Yeah... I was told that you guys were still around and kicking, so to speak, when I applied to Calculus for the Masses. None of them knew me. It was very mortifying, so I listed a lot of y'all as references, and they told me that you guys had moved off the UBB.
  17. Well, I thought I'd play a Half-Elf, and take a level of Half-Elf Paragon (a class dedicated to being "all-that is to be a half-elf"). One of the Paragon abilities is to choose either Elven or Human heritage... and allows me to take a level of Human Paragon. Let's follow up with a level of Bard. ~O~ The ultimate goal is to max out levels in Half-Elf Paragon and Human Paragon. Then start taking levels of Dragon Disciple and eventually become a (Half-) Dragon who is the essense of Half-Elven Humanity. There's also a Half-Dragon Paragon out there... ~O~ And, for those of you who have access to the Book of Exaulted Deeds, there are vows of poverty. Why not have a Dragon with a vow of poverty? ~O~ Name: Raven Storm-Song Concept: Master of Contradictions Race: Half-Elven, initially Gender: Female, to start (If I can find a legitimate means to change it, I will) Eyes: Gold Hair: Black Skin: Brown, until DD levels come into play Height: av. for whatever STR is rolled. Weight: av. for height Align: Preferably Lawful Chaotic, unless Amoral Silly is an option Edit: I just remembered the Accolyte of the Skin prestige class, which allows one to transform into a demon... although that'd take Epic levels. Hmmm... taking lvls in Monk would allow me to become an Outsider, as well. Muahahahaha. Change race as many times as possible!
  18. A small, bald globe is seen peeking into the Cabaret. "Can't we meet in more dignified surroundings?" it asks plaintively. ~~
