The turn of the century.

The invention of the airplane.

The drunken orgies of prohibition.

Crackling, in the fireplace.

The Spanish Civil War, the forgotten

Prelude to World War II, burning,

Along with the Great Depression,

And the Jews and the Communists

Of the concentration camps.

Burning like children

Hit by napalm

In Vietnam.

And the Red Scare is over,

Like the fall of the Berlin Wall,

Shortly after the Gulf War

And the Storms of the Desert.

And O.J. and Lewinsky and

All that nonsense

Goes up in smoke

As the rubble of the

Trade Center comes down

In suffocating clouds

To smother the masses.

The turn of the millennium,

And last century’s inventions

Come back to haunt us,

As they always have.

And the immolation of

Everything continues,

In the conflagration

Of time.

And yesterdays blow away

Like ashes in the wind.

And tomorrow doesn’t exist,

For there never was a yesterday,

And today is dead.

A pile of old newspapers,

Slowly burning away

To make way

For the fire.

Interesting. Kind of deconstructs the long line of moments that lead to this one. Defines the focus of our existence in a perpetuity of destructive acts. SObering.

Ancient, The Pen is Mightier than the Sword.

Bard of Terra, Patron Saint of Aspiring Bards.

Elder than dirt, more foolish than a jester, able to trip over the smallest logic in a single step. It's... Oh, you know.
