Things Abominable

I take a grain of salt

And put my tongue in my cheek

As I begin to speak

About things abominable:

Humanity never had a chance.

As I take a glance

At the ruins around me,

I wonder what the point was.

And it is Human Nature to

Be greedy, right? At least,

That’s what some scholars say.

So today I say with some

Slight spite that moral

Right is meaningless.

For even if I should shed

My skin, I am still saturated

In sin, like my next of kin

The serpent.

And even if I should hiss

And protest, my fate is still

Sealed, like the coffin

I rest in, as the last nail

Is pounded down on the lid.

So I search for salvation not

In the heavens above, but

Thousands of feet below

In the hole they call hell.

"Make me the Antichrist,"

I cry out in anguish and

Angst, "for I have had enough

With the world."

A world in which

Words of wisdom meant

Nothing.

A world where change

Never came.

But redeemed, human souls

Can be, by way of the battle

Of Armageddon.

Make me the object of

Mankind’s hatred, yes,

I am the destroyer.

That heartless, soulless,

Putrescent creature that

Kills indiscriminately

Merely to defy the sky.

I will make the sacrifice,

For truly, it is a sacrifice.

I will be that abomination

If it means the souls

Of humanity will finally

Be free.

Sacrificial Lamb and

Great Serpent, one

And the same

Who can you blame?

Man’s duality

Is inescapable.

And since I know that

Good must triumph, I may

Sell my soul, and that way

You still lose, Lucifer.

But what if I am wrong

And I triumph? Then truly,

The joke is on me,

Along with the death

Of humanity.
