The Pen is Mightier than the Sword

The Winter Demon

A demon sits upon my chest,

And past it I can't breathe.

It's claws are fixed around my throat,

It cackles as I heave.

A bitter wind rips through my flesh,

As I lie here in the snow.

My only warmth the demon, now,

As the chilling zephyrs blow.

I cough and scream in agony,

As the demon laughs and mocks.

Somehow he grows heavier,

As back and forth he rocks.

There is no cure for such betrayal,

No way to loose his hold.

For mankind has yet to find the cure,

For the deadly common cold.

Degorram!

This was excellent. I loved the way you took something we've all suffered through and gave it such beautiful imagery.

At the end, when I realized the poem was about a cold, I had to go back and read it a second time.

I feel like you did an excellent job!
