The Pen is Mightier than the Sword

big, black nose,

cute, stuffed ears,

shiny buttons

on his fur coat,

child's favourite cuddly toy

missing nose,

ripped-off ears,

long-lost buttons,

filthy fur coat,

no longer an item of joy

No idea what made me write this...just suddenly got the idea and within a minute the poem was written...seems that inspiration strikes at the weirdest moments...

After a bit of discussion about a possible second version with Cyril. Much happier version, building on the fact that children like their tattered toys best, since they've grown used to them.

just an everyday toy

filthy fur coat,

one child's bundle of joy

Nice poems, Patrick. :-) Short, simple, and pretty effective. The two posts definitely represent different poems as opposed to revisions, since their stances on old toys are basically direct opposites of each other (to state the obvious). The contrast between the two versions of the poem is an interesting one, and it might even be interesting to see if you could combine the two poems at some point as an experiment. Perhaps different children view worn toys in different ways... or maybe the first poem represents the perspective of an adult, as opposed to that of a child.

Anyway, thanks for sharing these here Patrick. :-) It's nice to see some new posts from you.
