*A young warrior dressed in black leather armor with a crimsion wolf's paw painted on the chest and two smaller ones on each shoulder. He bares the rank of Scout Chief of the Red Wolf clan. He carries a repeating crank-action light crossbow, a short sword at his side, and a set of throwing daggers strapped to his right thigh. Pulling back the hood of his woren dark brown cloak, he reveals brown eye, lightly tan skin, and coppery close-crop hair. Setting his crossbow on the table, he picks up the quill before dipping it in ink. He pauses to think of what to write on the parchment. At last, he starts writing*

Sarie's Last Dance

By: Yan Yan Ganaffi

Moonlight streamed through the evening mists as swords flashed and screams were silenced by the violence of battle. Sarie Ganaffi, along with her syblings Yan Yan, Boslio, and Juna, attempted to route the Usia mercenaries hired by the vile Lord Koriki. Red eyes gleamed in the night, surrounding the brave warriors.

Sarie, with a leaf-bladed short spear, drove the crysteline blade deep between the joint in the armor of one reptilain warrior, then kicked the creature in the chest as she removed the weapon from it's gut. Spinning swiftly, she turned to another attacker, jabbing the opponent twice in the chest with the spear before he know he'd been hit.

Yan Yan fired a quick volley of shatter bolts into the approaching horde, felling several of the rushers. One broke through, swinging a wicked looking short sword, and closed in on Yan Yan. Drawing back for momentum, Yan Yan brought up the butt of his crossbow to the orc's jaw, jerking the monster's head back as he collapsed onto his back. Bringing up his leg, Yan Yan ended the orc's life with a heel stomp to his head.

Juna parried repeated attacks from a large orge swinging a good sized tree branch. She ducked a wide swing from the drooling beast, unleasting a fury of jabs with her daggers, punchering the ogre's unprotected stomach. The creature teetered to the left, landing in a quivering heap. Juna planted a knee in the upper back of him as she drove the daggers home into the back of the orge's neck.

Boslio was rushed by three goblin warriors, spear's set at a charge. Boslio strifed right to aviod the incoming attackers. With his short sword, he parried the closest spear to him, successfully dearming his opponent. The goblin was swiflty run though, vainly clasping it's hands to it's chest in an effort to fend off it's oncoming demise. Out of the corner of his eye, Boslio saw one of the goblins throw his spear at him. Dropping suddenly, the spear flew over him and into Sarie's back. She stumbled forward, dropping her spear. Going to her knees, she tried to gather her breath, but couldn't. Fright entered her mind as she realized where she'd been hit; the spear had pierced one of her lungs.

Juna screamed Sarie's name and ran to her aid. Boslio and Yan Yan fought off the remaining mercenaries, who broke off the assualt in tatters. Yan Yan chambers another feeder box of shatter bolts, covering his brother and sister as they worked to save Sarie's life. Juna removed the spear as Boslio removed Sarie's armor. her breathing was very labored, blood seeping from the wound in her back. Taking out a waterskin, they cleaned the blood and grime from the gash. Boslio took a small bag containing fire algae, a powerful antiseptic. He put a small piece in his mouth, chewing it into a soft gum. The heat from the algae brought tears to Boslio's eyes due to the acid in the plant's cells reacting with the moisture in his mouth. Spitting out the chewwed mass into his hand, he placed it onto the wound. Sarie howled in pain, arching her back in reaction to the burning of the gum. She settled down as the algae numbed the pain in her back. A calming, sleepy feeling entered as the narcotic effects of the plant took hold. The last thing she remembered was the sensation of being lifted into the air by an unseen force before she passed out.

A week later, Sarie awake in her bed, too sore to get up, though she tried twice. Her mother, Axia, was sitting by her bed. "Sarie," She cautioned," You need your rest." Axia gave Sarie a wooden cup filled with white willow bark tea to ease her pain. "You're lucky to be alive."

"Where are the other's," Sarie asked.

Axia smiled,"Down in the Summer Camp on the river. Yan Yan just left here with a message to General Gath."

"They're alright?"

"Yes, my dear," her mother informed her," They are fine. Get soon rest, please."

Sarie nodded. This was the closest she'd been to death. Rest was needed for her to heal. Quietly, she drifted off to sleep, dreaming of pleasentries far away from the waking world...

The End

*Yan Yan replaced the quill in it's place. Smiling, he turned and left.*

YanYan Ganaffi grumbles a few curses under his breath as he adjusts the position of his applicant easychair, shifting it a few inches closer to Wyverns incredibly messy desk and carefully avoiding the mountains of paperwork surrounding it. Frowning to himself and glancing at the grandfather clock in the corner of the Office, the anxious applicant considers chalking his days of waiting on the armrest of his seat, when suddenly the faint sound of a familiar reptilian voice catches his attention.

"YanYan." pleads the voice in a half-whisper. "Help me...!"

YanYan Ganaffi curiously glances up at the ceiling from where the sound is coming from, and jumps back as he finds Wyvern plastered there, wearing a strange inflated suite that makes him look like the fattest reptile this side of anacandas digesting tourists. Wyvern stares down at YanYan helplessly, biting his scaly lip slightly as he hisses:

"Hi there. Listen, YanYan, I'm in a bit of a predicament here. I was testing out a prototype version of the latest in Almost Dragonic Brand Stealth Technologies™, the Almost Dragonic Brand Reverse Parachute Inflatable Stealth Suite™, the only technological suite capable of effortlessly elevating forms to new heights using Gravitechnology™. Unfortunatly, I got a little stuck... can you see my desk?"

YanYan stares at Wyvern blankly, then glances at the area which he had been moving his seat towards and mumbles:

"Sort of."

"It's that kinda rectangular shape at the center of the Papercut Peaks mountain range..." hisses Wyvern, desperatly trying to motion with his arms but unable to do so. "...cutting over the Valley of Discarded Chocolate Wrappers and adjacent to the Melba Halls of Hell."

"I see it" says YanYan Ganaffi, walking towards the desk carefully in the hopes of not causing any paper avalanches. "What would you like me to do?"

"There should be a handheld remote control somewhere on the desktop." hisses Wyvern. "All you have to do is press the large red button on it and this suite should automatically deflate."

"O.K" mutters YanYan, searching through garbage and paperwork on the desktop until he comes across a remote control with a red button on it. Grinning happily at the good fortune of finding the remote so quickly on such a messy desk, the applicant confidentally holds it up for the lizard to see and presses the red button on it. Nothing happens.

Wyvern is silent in his ceiling position for a moment, then nervously cries out. "N-no, could it possibly be that the remote is defective?! It can't be... I'll be doomed to spend the rest of eternity as an Almost Dragonic hot air balloon! *sob*"

"You were already full of hot air." mutters YanYan Ganaffi under his breath, turning back towards Wyverns desk for a moment and suddenly noticing a curious shape on it. Rummaging through several used magazines in order to give the shape further inspection, the applicant is surprised to find another remote with a red button on it sitting there. Picking up the remote, YanYan presses the button on it and watches as Wyvern immediatly deflates, sending him plummeting down to the Office floor for an unexpected crash.

Once Wyvern has recovered from his fall, he thanks YanYan Ganaffi for his help and stamps his application story ACCEPTED. The reptilian Elder then scratches his scaly chin in curiousity, and examines the first remote control that YanYan had used... only to suddenly go tense as he immediately recognizes it as the Almost Dragonic Brand M4 Landmime™ detonator that he had tried to sell to Ghost of the Dawn.

Elsewhere, in the beautiful Courtyards of the Pen...

Tanuchan strolls along happily and hums to herself, thoroughly admiring the beauty of nature around her. The wolf's day was going extremely well ever since she had avoided becoming tangled in a mess of arms and legs at Wyverns Office, as it marked a significant change in fortune and put her in very good spirits. Grinning at a passing butterfly and following its path with her eyes as it passes over the clearing, Tanuchan's smile is shortlived as the ground suddenly begins quaking beneath her. The wolf poet stares left and right in confusion, then cries out as an explosion of mannequin arms and legs suddenly rockets out of the ground, entangling her in a rain of limbs...

;-p

OOC: An ACCEPTED application, YanYan Ganaffi... Welcome to the Mighty Pen! :) I look forward to reading more of your writing, as well as to participating with you in community projects and events. Once again, welcome!

"Noooooo...." wails Tanny as she trashes and bites at all the tangled limbs, finally getting out in a blind run.

A blackish, somewhat wolf-shaped form passes in a blur by Finnius, still under the big oak tree, and dives under the bushes on the far side of the Courtyard. Panting, Tanny lies down quietly, and after some minutes finally dares to stick her nose an inch out of the covering. After a few more minutes, during which the nose could be barely seen sniffing, a pair of grey eyes can be discerned peeking out.

"How did that lizard find me?" mutters her under her breath.

A small voice in the corner of her mind mutters back, "Don't be foolish. He's in the Office, you saw him going that way and so it was that you decided to stay in the courtyard".

"Of course it was him, who else would be tracking me with the sole purpose of drowning me in arms and legs??" argues her to herself.

"You're a paranoid wolf".

"Hmmph!"

Finally relaxing, Tanny decides to keep where she is for the rest of the day, curling up and making herself comfortable for a nap.
