"We never really did learn to just chat
With each other. But now the silences
Don’t hurt. Now we can let them sit empty"
You know this started out sounding like an explanation for all the Idlers in #thepen
Unfortunately nothing more to say, good poem though

[chibi] We love you, Salinye! [/chibi]
Nobody saw that. Period.

I don't really know what to say to this, but I do think it's an excellent poem. I didn't quite catch the rhythm pattern, but often I'm the only one who catches it in my poetry, so it's all good. The overall mood of the poem is something I can identify with, too.

I stand alone in my heart
With a jar so full of tears
I let them flow into the sea
Comingling with the years
I let go of my hatred and
I let go of my strife
All I want is peace of mind
I just want to live my life
I've forgiven the friends I never had
I've forgiven the ones who made me sad
I watch my anger flow away
Bourne on your gentle waves
I thank you for the life I lead
And for my soul you died to save
I sit alone but I'm not sad
I'm forgiven and renewed
My heart is purified by love
I've finally reached what I pursued
I've forgiven myself for going astray
I've forgiven the enemies I made
This is a testament to truth
And the joy that love can bring
Forgiving is so hard to do
But when you do it's just the thing
To help you up when you are down
I'd fallen so far into the pain
I hope I can portray the love
And how my fighting was not in vain
I've forgiven the ones that did me wrong
I've forgiven the dischord in the song
I've forgiven the things you did to me
I've forgiven you, though you won't forgive me.
Eh, I'm getting all sappy and spiritual lately. Either way, I hope that this left some sort of message for people. Not my best work but I hope it at least bring a little peace to someone.

Excellent poem, Jonathan. As I was reading I was trying to see what sort of bird it was - I had the image of a seagull originally. The Albatross is a much better symbol of nautical freedom though, glad you used it
The vocabulary on this is excellent, as well. A lot of these words I'm hard-pressed to use when asked, nevertheless in a poem.
-
Excellent poem, D. I get the image of a desert scene, with a poor lost wandering soul being tormented along his way by mirages and voices.
I understand where you're coming from, and the inner strength needed to overcome such hardships is hard to come by. Search for an inner power and use it to your advantage.
-
Excellent Poem, DragonQueen. I understand where you're coming from on this one, and you used the word ne'er beautifully. Sometimes you need to stop and try and remember whether or not you are who you think you are. It's an excellent point to ponder when you're bored.

I, too, am a little annoyed by commentary or lack thereof - BUT seeing as how I rarely comment on other people's poetry, I can't exactly complain much, can I?
My last two poems in the banquet hall are still sitting there at 0 replies each, and realistically I suppose this is a bit of cruel irony. I should really start replying to more - and I'm guilty myself of only saying 'Great poem, keep up the good work' but often it's because I don't want to analyze something good...oftentimes that ruins it for me - Lord of the Flies anyone? After we got done taking that book apart in english I hated it with a passion.
Either way I suppose I'll start to write better responses to other people's work, and I encourage everyone else to do so, too.
Well, it is finals week for the high schools, at least around here, so that could have to do with less posting lately.

Cover your bases and protect your king
You're in control now - it's a sure thing
You never lose but you never win either
What's the point of a game with a saddened winner?
I play to lose, I go in unprepared
Play the game with a casual style and flair
When the loser's the one with the grin on his face
I prefer to lose happy than to win with disgrace
I dance around subjects and step on the nouns
I never present an edge that isn't round
I'm enamoured with predicates, adverbs too
If I'm in the battle I'm never too blue
Life's just a game and you don't need to win
The endings the same either way that you end
Dispose of the old lines and bring in the new
I hate to sound cattish, but the loser is you
I play to lose and show up to the fight
With a sharp wit by my side - a lyrical knight
My armor is rusted and my helmet's askew
But I always emerge happier than you
We'll duel with words and parry the thrust
We'll argue and fight and bark our disgust
We hide behind pronouns and attack upon sight
But I have no trouble sleeping in the dark of the night
Just a poem about arguing. I never come to an argument prepared. I just cut and slash my way through it
Either way, enjoy.

Excellent bit of work, Doom. I especially liked the second stanza with the cloud bit. Very good.

I walked along a bitter road
My fingers carved of ice
I wandered where no one would go
And ne'er threw the dice
I held my pain like lovers, dear
And closer than my friends
I thought that in my sorrow I
Could learn to live again
I lied to everyone I knew
I cheated, stole and cursed
I hungered for a simple cure
Answers to slake my thirst
Pain was the greatest part of me
It grew inside my heart
I never knew just how to heal
I never knew to start
But love was there for me always
My friends were always there
They loved me in the special way
That only friends can share
The pain I felt in my past life
Is everlasting, true
But love is so much more than that
'Tis everlasting, too.
Wrote this when I was bored in Cisco Networking class. Figured I'd do something different. I think it's Iambic Pentameter, but I can't recall off the top of my head, I think Iambic Pentameter is 10, but this is 8...Iambic Quantameter?
Whatever. Have fun ^.^

Good poem, though I was thrown off a tad by the elemental structure. I was expecting an elemental piece and it was just five forces. Cool poem though!

Bah. REALPLAYER IS SATAN.
Fine, I'll download it. Commie.

Off to bed again - again
We shed the tears of darker days
And retreat with sleep to lighter climes
Off to bed again - we have
Nothing more to fear from love
Or darker forms of secret dreams
Off to bed again - I hate
the coldness of the blankets chilling
me right down to my very soul
Off to bed again - alone
in my helpless bed of dreams
hating inverse linear relationships
Off to bed again - asleep
Pain hurts more when you're alone
But less than when you're at your best

Well, 2 posts a day isn't going to get you killed, but 5+ is right out.

Yeah, the title is taken from the opening line of 'The Heart of Worship' and all that, but I hope to create a new song.
When the music fades
And everything's clear
Will my heart have purpose
Something to hold dear
When the lights are gone
And I'm lying alone
I can hold onto hope
And the mem'ries I've known
When the guests have gone
And the house is so cold
I can still be warm inside
From the stories I've told
When I wake up crying
Everything'll be alright
I remember the good things
The summ'rs of my life
When the music fades
And the melody dies
I'll be here smiling
No more sad goodbyes

Technically Peredhil, it's Elitist, not Elitest...but I'm just being nitpicky
I'm obsessive compulsive and not a moderator, okay? O_O I had to correct it!

Good poem, I like the vocabulary. Remember that poetry is not always dark, though some of my best work has been dark. Ergh. Bad advice, do what you like ;;

The song of the sword rings out again
Who will answer it's reckless call?
The swarthy pirate from the roiling sea
Or the King of the mountain tall?
The rings sound off their shearing might
The morning star rises up to fight
The second sun rises up in the sky
The song of the sword brings endless night
AGOC was a story I was writing quite a while ago. A Game of Chess: The Tale of the Five Rings was the full title and if you hunt around you can find it. Either way, I just thought about that and blurped this into existence. Have fun hope you all liked it.

I personally reccomend accepting this applicant, she is a friend and I whole-heartedly believe she is ready for The Pen and will benefit it.
-
I reccomend the acceptance of this hopeful Pennite. I am the one who reccomended that he join the Pen, and his poetic skills will flourish and flower in this new setting.
Also, nice poem.

Geez, performing in front of people is simultaneously frightening beyond anything you've ever imagined in your entire life...and strangely validating. Anyway, wrote this song to play at a new year's eve party. It's hard to pick up the beat without hearing it, but it's a steady tempo, note changes each line.
There's a place at the end of the road where I can
Be who I always wanted to be
And every problem I ever had
Ceases to scream
Something burns brightly inside of me
Something I always wanted to see
A desire I thought could comfort me
When I was down
Well you won't find me
On the side of the road
Sitting there confused
Wondering where to go
All my life I've been searching for the
Place where I can finally rest my head
Somewhere nice and peaceful
A house and a bed
Sad happy in the twilight haze it burns
Wandering through life's crazy twists and turns
But I know that I'll find
What I'm searching for

Hmm...
I resolve to be more truthful to myself and my friends.
I resolve to start working out or running or something.
I resolve to have fun!
-
Cioden abruptly stood and starting pacing, frowning hesitantly. "Hmm...there shouldn't be any way that a creature not native to the shadowplane would gain that much power this quickly. I have spies of my own."
Yui quirked an eyebrow. "I'm just telling you what I know."
Cioden stopped pacing, still frowning. "Hmm...well...I suppose I could check again." He turned to a dark corner of the wall, and Yui felt the cold tendrils of magic flare up around him. She shivered - this magic was unnatural.
"Skizat, come!" he called, his arm outstretched towards the shadows. Yui saw the shadows deepen, fading from black to a color somehow darker than black, the absolute lack of light and color. "Skizat, report to me." In the dark depths of the portal, something appeared.
Cioden grinned. "Skizat, how are my holdings in the shadowrealm doing?"
Silence.
Cioden's smile slipped and his brows narrowed. "Skizat, report-" A dark blur shot from the portal, flying into Cioden and knocking him across the room. The blur was followed by lancing darts of magical energy that left shining motes of magic in their wake as they leapt across the room to smash into the already off-balance mage. Yui leapt to her feet as the image just in time for the mindsplitting mental screech to wash over her.
CIODEN KILL
The beast stood on the other side of the portal, it's blue eyes gazing almost triumphantly upon the staggering mage.
Cioden think that Master cannot see spies. Cioden underestimate Master. CIODEN DIE! It's four arms whirled, and a barrage of missiles shot at Cioden. This time the magus saw them coming, and raised a magic shield that absorbed the shining daggers of light soundlessly.
Yui ran across the room, hoping to distract the monster, unsure of how her magic would work against such a creature. The beast stopped midspell as she ran into it's field of view. NOT-BEING! KILL! it screeched, and wove a new spell. Yui looked around for cover, but couldn't find anything nearby. She watched the spell form with a cold dread, and she started into the best counterspell she knew.
Suddenly the spell stopped though, and the roar of magic diminished substantially. The creature was taken aback, and tried weaving a new spell, which also fizzled.
WHAT HAPPEN?
Cioden sat, leaning up against one of his battered bookcases, chuckling to himself. "It's an anti-magic field. I always like to keep one of those handy. This one is attuned to me, and therefore prevents the shadowgate from closing just yet." He chuckled some more, but it was evident that he was in a lot of pain.
MASTER DESTROY CIODEN! the thing raved, glaring menacingly at them.
"Not any time soon, you won't. Begone, beast, and know that I am your true master." Cioden cut the magic that held the shadowgate together and it snapped shut, taking the mindscreech with it.
Yui sat for a long minute, starting around at the room. It was a mess - Cioden had smashed into a bookshelf when he had gotten thrown across the room, and books were strewn everywhere. Several experiments had been smashed, and other ones appeared to have simply exploded from being near the magic.
She looked over at Cioden, who sat there breathing hard. "So...truce?"
He looked back at her as if she was more than a little mad, then nodded. He closed his eyes and leaned back. "Truce."
Odd.

Love crawls serpentine
Flowing into cracks unknown
Filling up spaces inside
Then leaving without apology.
Nature abhors a vacuum
Inside me - unnatural?
Life seems odd and dis
joint
ed
at times. Love hurts
Ending the pain brings more
in a cycle of freudian auspicions
I crawl inside my filmy soul
Wrapping myself in gauzy sin
My poetic mind fascinates itself
Drawing ever inward, spinning spirals
convolate and irrigate my mind with chaos
Ever inward - outward is odd
Odd?
