Night of Change...

Night of Change

You look at me, and let me see

A twinkle in your eye.

You whisper clear, and in my ear,

“The time is growing nigh.”

My heartbeat grew, and then I knew

We’d make or break that night.

That time, so near, with you, my dear;

It had to be just right.

My heart still yearns, my stomach churns;

And what the reason be?

It’s crystal clear, you see, my dear,

You’ve made no promises to me.

The plan is thought, the things are bought;

And anxious here I wait.

I wonder if that night we’ll kiss;

And what will be our fate?

I see it clear; that night, my dear;

I dream of it so oft’.

I’ll gaze into your eyes of blue

And hold your hand so soft.

My heart still breaks, my head, it aches;

And what the reason be?

Don’t you know what pains me so?

You’ve made no promises to me.

The night is here, the sky is clear;

The heavens are so bright.

You step out side to take my side

And I swoon at your sight.

I look and see what couldn’t be-

This angel at my side.

With skin so fair, and eyes that flare

Up like the rising tide.

My face says, “Glad,” my heart cries, “Sad”;

And what the reason be?

You don’t know I love you so.

You’ve made no promises to me.

The night goes on with fun and song;

We dance the night away.

I pull you near and hold you, dear,

As we turn and sway.

I hold you tight and, oh, so right;

You breathe unto my ear.

While in my arms you’ll fear no harms;

I’ll ever love you, dear.

I’ve choked on tears all these years;

And what the reason be?

You don’t see what we could be.

You’ve made no promises to me.

We walk along in silence strong;

The crowds have left us now.

We turn and face and then embrace;

So little to say now.

The night’s near gone. It feels so wrong

That it should end like this

For as we touch, I wish so much

For true loves first kiss.

I sit and wait and fight with fate;

And what the reason be?

I look to see what still won’t be.

You’ve made no promises to me.

But, hark! What’s this? Something’s amiss.

I’ve not noticed it before.

There’s something new, like love so true,

Down in your bosom’s core.

You look at me and let me see

A twinkle in your eye.

And now I see that we may be;

And in relief I sigh.

There now is hope and less I mope;

And what the reason be?

It’s time we need- our love may seed.

You may yet make promises to me.

Yours truly,
