Out of boredom during my Fall semester finals, I developed the art of the instant sonnet. Most of them are jokes for my friends or caricatures of them, but I wrote a few that are actually poetry. I figured I'd share my favorite one with you guys.

 

I know a few of you who speak French very well, so I'll only include a translation if someone requests it.

 

It's untitled as of yet, but I call it Sonnet #4. ;)

 

Flocons par milliers semblent vers moi se ruer;

Rien ici à entendre, pourtant j'écoute.

Temps de solitude avec vue obstruée,

Silence complet, sauf la distante route.

 

Si près de tout, si loin de la réalité,

Devant mes yeux entrouverts le ciel ondule.

Sons déformés ne gardent que leurs qualités,

Créant cette tranquilité que j'adule.

 

En partant de mes pieds progrèssent les frissons,

Jusqu'à ce que mes sens me crient à l'unisson

Qu'il est temps de laisser mon lit éphémère.

 

Si bien installé, je redoute le moment

Quand je devrai cesser de flotter calmement

Pour finalement quitter mon sanctuaire.
